My '96 vette Vs. a '99 C5
My co-worker owns a totally stock 1999 Corvette C5 Hardtop - not coupe - but HT, like the Z06, but base LS1 of course. He had been hounding me since I bought my C4 back in Janurary with comments like, "You should a went with the C5 buddy", or, "mines got the ls1", and telling co-workers behind my back that his car will eat mines alive because it's got the LS1 plus it's newer, and that my car is not that fast. Well, after all the smacking he's been doing, I finally gave in yesterday and told him i'd race him after work. My car is a 1996Coupe that came with RPO's LT4 and MN6. We got the first yellow, and I must admit I had butterfly's badly. The light greened, and I launched. First gear and most of second was a bluuuur, but when I finally came to it, I looked beside me, and couldn't see him. All I could see was his lights shining, and slowly fading away. I got him by a little more than a car. He made plenty excuses, so I ran him again. This time I BANGED third and pulled him even harder. He finally had had enough and we waved eachother off, but forgot that we were going the same way. I was cruising about 40-45mph and here he comes pulling up on me. I knew it was coming, so I dropped down to first on the roll. We gunned it and my car pulled effortlessly for a third win. I always knew my car "felt" faster than his, especially in the midrange, after riding along a few times, but never been the kind to talk smack so I just never said anything. Today he seemed embarrased, and I overheard him telling a friend he was ordering an SLP Intake and Exhaust system.

Lol he really couldnt pull a 13.2 or better, i ran a 12.87 with exhaust and headers and a lid and my car weighs about 300-400 more than his.

I wouldn't take my quarter-mile figures into consideration if I were you bud - because i'll admit, I SUCK! In my F-body I am a Pro, but for some reason, in this car I cannot hook for nothing. Car Craft Magazine did a shootout with an '96 LT4 and got 12.8@109 in a bone-stock coupe on stock radials. The weight and power/tq numbers say 12's is where I should be, but haven't found it yet unfortunately.

I always liked the C4's exterior more than the C5's.

Yeah when I set out to make a new purchase in Feburary, I wanted to try something new besides an F-body. I'm proud to say i've owned 8 of them ('94Z/'96 TA/'93 TA/'94 Z28 vert/'97 SS/'93 Z28/'98 Z28, all in order up to my current '93 Z28), so I wanted to try something new. I test drove a couple used C5 vettes and was very impressed, as well as a '92 Viper RT/10 that had a very attractive price. The car was very strong, but I wasn't to crazy about the plastic, velcro'd on windows - I didn't think I could live with that. Then I found this, and thought I would be very unique if I got this one. Wen't and looked at it, drove it, and bought it for a total of $18,800 cash ($22,500 was asking price), and never looked back. Driving it is an amazing experience even in stock trim, totally different from the F-bodies. It's no trailer queen either. I plan to mod the HELL out if!

I never had a clue those LT4 cars were that fast..... How many years did they put the LT4 in the C4 or was it just a package deal?

Nice Kill
I love the color of your vette
Back when I had my 99 frc corvette, I happen to race a 96 LT4 collector's edition, and pulled him by 2 lengths in the quarter. It's definately a driver's race between the 97-00 C5.2004 MB E500

Cool....
They make a conversion for the LT1 on our cars but its hardly worth the money...... Stock it would have been cool I suppose but they did produce some w/ the Ling 383 package which are supposedly good for high 12 passes. For the money the LT4 conv cost though you can almost build a 10 B-body. Easily an 11 second one.....96 Imp SS- 12.74@103, 1.74 60' out of fuel
06 AWD TB SS- 12.58@106, 1.76 60'

Thanks for the offer, but there isn't room in my garage for 2 TAs. Currently I'm trying to resist the itch, but the fact that new 07 Zo6s can be bought below msrp isn't helping. The Viper may be on the way out, but I will never get rid of the TTA. Call me sentimental

Go buy that supervette and drive around with the knowledge that you are more than a match for every production Lamborghini ever sold in the U.S. (until 198 mph, of course!)
