Killed an SRT-8 Charger yesterday!
On my way to a friends house yesterday I turned on to 24 (Rowan St.) off of Bragg Blvd. A yellow Mustang and a black charger are in the middle of a war and come up behind me so I throw a rev back. It's pretty crowded downtown so we're just playing a little bit in traffic. The mustang turned off and when 24 turns into a four lane devided I make some room for the charger to come up. That's when I saw the SRT8 badge and had to gulp. I change lanes and he pulls up on my left and gives me a nod so I honk it three times floor it and drop it into 3rd. We started at about 55 and I could tell he had an auto cause the delay in it downshifting gave me a fender on him. I proceded to walk him from there about a car length before I had to get off it. I slow down and he pulls up along side and gives me the thumbs up before turning off. Great sportsmanship, you know a ricer would've done a flyby with his middle finger out the window after a death but this guy was cool. Couldn't believe I took him like that but never underestimate the power of a bolt-on 4th Gen. The LS1 is an amazing thing....

That was right in his powerband in 2nd gear, 55mph. Nice kill, what are your mods?

i beat one a while back, they are not to scary stock. I had full exhaust. Basani headers, 3 in y, and a borla catback, but i just had the y open. Also the intake side, lid, intake. I was suprised that i beat it. From a dig it is easy to take one and not so hard on the go and from a slow roll say 20ish that is where i murdered it.
But once you race a modded one, that is a bit scary. My buddy raced this one guy in a cruise. I don't know what he had done but he broke'em loose while doing around 50-60.
I like em, big room, and enouh umph to get you through.

WEIGHT...is the enemy of the SRT-8, and all Chargers for that matter. 4160 lbs. can make 425hp look "slow".

They should have put a 500 HP Hemi in the Viper. That V-10 sounds funny as hell.
Good kill, I have been aching to race one of those.

They're pretty scary stock 13.0s at 110.... Very very rare to see a F-bod do that and I've seen quite a few 13.0s out of 300s and Chargers bone stock.
And the aftermarket sucks for them so not sure what you mean by modded. The only mod's for them really are custom stuff thats going to make any ride sick...
Killing a SRT-8 on the roll, other than a GC, is something to be proud of.

Not to be prickish bud, but the Charger SRT-8 DOES NOT run 13.0's @ 110 stock -- thats waaaay off the mark. Motor Trend clocked 0-60 in 5.0 and the quarter in 13.5 @ 106.3 (www. Motortrend.com), and we all know how easy it is to upgrade an F-body to do that, if it won't do it STOCK! I frequent the tracks very often and have seen several SRT-8 Chargers and a few 300's, and never saw one come even close to 13-flat bone-stock. Look at the curb weight; their just too heavy. 13.4-13.6 @ 105-106 is the norm. An LS1 is every bit capable of running with an SRT-8, despite the 100 HP disadvantage

Well, perhaps my times are better being here on the East coast compared to what you see. On that note though, I have seen very few F-bods go 13.0s stock, only one in fact. Its been quite normal though for the SRT-8s. Also, every SRT-8 Charger and 300 I have seen has trapped from 107-110. The last SRT-8 I saw was a GC w/ a CAI only. He ran 13.1-13.2 all night at 104 and 105. Stock for stock on a roll I'd go w/ a Charger or 300 most of the time, depending on where its started from. They are far from a joke on a roll........

That's funny because every stock F-body runs mid-13s or worse around Sac. and Sears Point. My best ET stock was a 13.3 and my best mph 108mph (at Sac, btw. that track sucks it's so slippery). SRT-8s stock will pull a stock F-body as well - I've done it numerous times like many others.
The fact you're quoting MT is funny also, considering C&D tested 2 trapping at 109mph with 13.2 ETs and R&T 108mph. Sample the boards and you'll find 108-110mph trap speeds and quite a few have run 12s stock.

It's also funny to claim that "EVERY" F-body runs mid-13s or worse around Sac; that's a very strong and ridiculous statement. We all know by now what these LS1's are capable of. Sac Raceway is my home turf, seen F-body after F-body knock off low 13's @ 107-108. Heck M/T got 13.4@107.7 in their 2001 WS6. Quickest i've seen an SRT-8 go was 13.4@106. The SRT-8 is not bad, but it's way to plump. An LS1 with the right driver will run right with it, like it or not.

You obviously weren't there when I ran 108mph, were you? At the Sears NHRA event in late May I ran a 13.3 and the F-bodies could only muster 13.5s or worse. I'm consistently quicker than they are at Sears.
Sorry, no stock f-body has trapped at 110mph and many SRT-8s have. A stock LS-1 just won't cut it. And 12sec runs are far more common for the SRT-8.
Not to many stock LS-1s beating CTS-Vs, LS2 GTOs, E39 M5s and C5 6ms either, that is SRT-8 territory.
Unless it's in the bottom of 2nd or 3rd gear from a roll which is a "dead spot" for the SRT-8, its almost a guaranteed outcome.Last edited by Deuuuce; 06-28-2007 at 10:03 AM.

Deuuuce you shouldnt be putting down f-bods like you are. You are on a Ls1 website. The f-bods at your track can't muster a 13.5? Are you serious? How many different f-bods did you watch?

Not at all Hutch, just stock for stock an SRT-8 should always win. All SRT-8 owners acknowledge once modded, the LS-1 will rule. Gears are not even available for the SRT-8!!
Sears Point is an example of identical conditions. I ran a 13.3, two SS Zs had 13.5 dial-ins and a great example of the driver mod - 2 C6 Vettes had 13.4 dial-ins. The stock GTOs were not doing very good either.
