Silver- 2000 Camaro SS
Killed by friends modded foxbody. need advice...
so my friend just got his foxbody back together. he rebuilt his whole engine, new street/strip cam, new heads, headers, 3.43 (somewhere around there) gears, suspension mods, cold air intake, true dual exhaust, and its a 5speed...
hes a cool guy and hes not cocky so im happy for him having a nice car. ive been seein him workin on his car lately cuz he lives like 3 houses down, and ive been revvin my engine at him. (basically just to hurry his ass up)
well finally today, the car was back together. pulled up to me in a parking lot and i could hear his loppy idle
he said he was expecting 280hp... now i know this guy, hes very humble. he woudlnt exaggerate or lie to impress anyone. he might be wrong, but that was his estimate.
he took me for a ride in it... and HOLY SHIT
it was hard to keep my head off of the seat. got to 60 immediately...
so we got to cruising, its about 9:30 now... and i decided i wanted to see how much he would ass rape me in a race. we went out way into the country, raced from a dig. by 2nd he was at my front fender, so i was like, wait something is wrong here. by 70mph he had about 4 car lenghts on me
talked to hi afterwards and he said he spun thru first and second. it was his first race with his new engine.
i knew there had to be a reason i was almost keeping up with him
so, we smoked the hell out of the area together and got out of there. we ended up pulling in our subdivision at 11pm... we both have the loudest cars in town lol i bet the neighbors were fucking pissed
end of my long story.

OK, you can upgrade fuel system to FI, or cheaper bigger TBI, cai, headers, head and cam package......but thats alot of money on a 305......yank it out go to gmpp and by a ls1 block....lol......hard to say man sorry to tell you this but your tecnology is extinct

ok thats actually a good starting point cuz the T5 can't take torque worth crap. A TBI 305 doesn't respond very well to mods, but the first thing you want to do is increase your airflow. Get a highflow filter element, like a K&N or something, and see if you can find a coldair kit for a TBI Camaro, I don't know if they exist. Also look at replacing your catalytic converter with a high-flow cat and definitely shoot for a cat-back exhaust. A shift kit is also good for some acceleration.

the parts you want to het right now are parts that can bolt right up to a 350 and work just as well. while you're doing all of those little breathing mods, look for a 350 TBI, they were available in trucks, Caprices, Roadmasters, and I think the Fleetwood until at least 1993. the more cubic inches you have, the better your engine will respond to cheap mods like airflow. 350 TBIs should be pretty cheap because its not like TBI is a high demand performance platform, but you can swap one underneath your factory intake manifold and an emissions inspection won't even know the difference, if that matters where you are at.

oh and about the air filter... i was planning on taking out the air filter, cutting a hole in my wheel well, and putting a cone filter there. my foxbody friend is giving me a free k&n cone filter and thats what hes got so i figured why not

just the unit(a little round black plastic thing)....lol....thats all fine and good, remember the more air and fuel you put to it the more hp.....however this is a modded 5.0 you got alot to catch up those thinga and headers are not going to do the job

well, if you want to keep it tbi for now, just search for the block, but you'll probably find a whole engine cuz who goes around pirating tbi units off of truck motors??? Most people would say to just get an edelbrock performer rpm manifold and slap a good ol' carburator on top. A 350 with a carb may not be something that really belongs in this forum but thats about the cheapest way to beat your buddy aside from nitrous.
