    Killed a '96 Cobra

    When one of our favorite establishments in Poplar Bluff closed around 5:30 I got a challenge from a '96 Cobra owner and his buddy. He tried to pass me on a the straight away but couldn't pull me. He backed off and wanted to try a 20 mph roll. By the time I hit third I was pullin a whole car. A repeat you say, same results from the 20 roll!! I feel a little avenged from my previous loss!!

    Sweet kill! I bet he had some nice little bolt-ons on that four-valve to keep up with your SS.

    It was only my third race and I was nervous. What made it great is that he started talkin crap, and had to eat it.

    haha... good killing him! I can't believe how much shit talkers are coming out just because the LS1 cars are getting older. For some reason they think it means they are slow. Keep on educating the punks!

    lol true that! A fast car doesn't really get outdated. The styling of the car and it's technology will get outdated, but not performance. You will always be able to head and cam an ls1 to get 500 hp and 11 sec quarter mile.
    96 cobra -> <- LS1

    ummm 96's are 2 valve. and they are pretty slow, if you had lost it would have been catastrophic.

    good job with it being an early race keep the BS's where they belong,.... I was talking with a fellow trans am owner today. We were makign sure the back of our cars looked nice because that's what people usually see.

    Yup like Hammer said the '96 Cobra is a 4v. The GT is the one you're referring to with the two-valve layout.

    ive seen 4 on the dyno and they pull 238-250 rwhp 305 under the hood. You can make them to go fast with bolt ons and i love the way they sound well most mustangs sound good. Id still take a LS1 no matter what

    I've never heard of one dynoing stock less than around 255-258 on a Dynojet (and I've seen a lot of dyno sheets for them).

    Ive seen them on a dyna pack which is where i got my last 2 cars done. I had a M3 Vert pulling 310rwhp, also my 93Z pulled 266rwhp(dyno day event) when on a regular dyno it pulled 289rwhp, different days from 266 to 289 so im sure it wasnt just the dyno but also weather the car was the same as far as mods are concerned just a new clutch.

    Really? I'll try to find that old Horsepower TV episode with the '96 Cobra that put down 245rwhp on a Dynojet. To add to that, over the 8 years I subscribed to MM&FF in seeing all of the different stock 96-98 Cobra dyno's in the tech sections and "Readers Rides" section, numbers averaged between the high 240's-255rwhp, some a little higher.
