How did this happen?
I (kinda) lost to a 02-04 mustang GT tonight. Car sounded really good but no way it had a cam. Car was a stickshift. I have an automatic 1998 trans am, ram air, ls1 lid, exhaust cutout, and flowmasters.
We started from a dig and i actually wasnt paying attention. He had a half car length head start and i eased into the gas to keep from spinning and then floored it. Everytime he hit a gear i couldnt catch him. He let of at 75 mph.
I rolled down the window and he claimed all he had was exhaust. Any thoughts guys? I would have not been scared to give hime 3 car lengths and still blow his doors off...... Im confused?

Probably had a shot of nitrous. Or he lied.
It's not how fast you can go. It's how fast you can get there.

With varying conditions as always - most around high 13s.

LOL, if he said he just has exhaust he should've kept his mouth shut and kept on driving. Just to let you know i will also agree with Knight, even if he had full exhaust, intake and tune you still would win. More then likely he had nitrous or something else.

yeah there's no way he only had exhaust. when i was stock i would beat them with headers, intake, exhaust and tune.

He let off at 75?
That was part of it right there. LS1's pull like a mother on Rustangs past 80.

even with spray....unless he was spraying 100+, a 50/75 shot still wouldnt make him win. id look more at the traction of your car and the race only going to 75 mph

IMO run your car at the track and see what happens. There are ls1 f-bodys only running high 13s and there are stang gt running high 13s. If you only went to 75mph could just be he is good out of the hole and has better gearing.

i agree with the gearing. i'm running 4.11's with nothing on the motor (stock manifolds) and blowing the doors off everything around here up to 80-85. after that, the car is just about done with peak torque.

You must have some slow cars in your area eh?
I would agree with everyone else. I've beaten a Mustang GT with H/C before and I put down 330rwhp with 4.11 gears. From a dig, 1st gear roll, and 2nd gear roll. Funny thing was before that he kept revving at me and taking off quick from a light while I just drove normal.
