Red Fire- 2007 Mustang GT/CS
Evo vs my Stang
On the way to work yesterday morning I am comfortably cruising at about 68-70 ( with traffic) as I am getting off of 167 onto 18 ( rt 18 is a 1 mile connector to 405) this black Evo jumps all over my ass...sigh.. there's two cars and a Sleep Country truck in front of me.. where ya goin ya 'Tard ?
We all take the on ramp and as soon as the guard rail ends this jackass jumps over the white line..cuts off oncoming traffic and pinches me off (as well as the guy in front of me so we have to jack the brakes) as soon as I merge this clown hits the flashers... WTF ? This is considered a Win ?
I get a bit testy and slap it down to third and jam the gas a bit to bounce the lights behind him..Just to annoy..
No room with all the morning commute traffic so I mellow and follow the cars to the 405 on ramp..
He is directly in front of me on the on ramp ... I can hear his giant Fart can buzzing as he is holding second gear to keep his rpms up.
I know its not the newest body style.. One or two previous to the current model.. Dunno what year it is, but it Doesn't have the little fins over the back window if that helps. We all break onto 405 and he immediately slams the throttle and hangs it hard to the left for the open lanes.. I drop to second as we are doing about 40 as we exit.. I just about rear end this clown..he grabs third and goes no where... I grab third and have to let off the gas so as to Not hit him.. I contemplate going around him but we are in Tacoma and there's a zillion cruisers about. We hit fourth and I just let off the gas and get some brake to get back to cruising speed.. Dunno what he had done but there was a foot long flame leaping from his fart can as he left off..
I THINK he was expecting to leave me.. but whatever.. I hit cruise control again and slide by him at 70... He wouldn't even look at me... ???
I am bone stock.. Thought this things were fast ? Perhaps he just needs the Driver mod ?
Not sure I wanna call this a kill, unless it was his ego that died.
Not LS1, but it was fun as hell..
Side note... I need exhaust badly... Stock sucks.
PS: Looked it up online. It was a 2003-2004 version NOT the MR

I don't know jack about imports, but does the regular lancer have a turbo ? If so, I guess it could have been, I guess.

Ah, then no..
It was definately a turbo car..
Perhaps the 50 pound muffler was an anchor and slowed it down. Hard telling not knowing I guess...Altho I have the feeling if I had been in my old SS I would have just bunted him off the road and out into the rhubarb. I didn't think a non turbo'd 4 cyl import could do 115 or so in third . There's some fast ones around here, but he wasn't one of em.

In that case your story doesn't make sense, since both of your cars run pretty much the same 1/4 mile and same trap stock. Either you're hiding a shot of nitrous, he wasn't going, or it was a regular Lancer or Reliant. The regular ones you'd pull them like you described. EVOs can't do 115 in 3rd by the way.

Gotcha.
I know I am not in a fast car, believe me I know it. Never got to race one with my SS tho, so I don't have much in the way of a point of referrence.
So it sounds like I beat up a thrashed and/or poorly running one. It looked just like 4tun8's avatar, but in black with a ski rack on the roof. Perhaps I mis represented the race abit but I did climb all up in his shit in second.. He was a car or two out as he got off the on ramp first, but by the end of second/start of third I was drafting him and had to back off the gas. I didn't have to brake but I certainly "caught him" Re-reading it... I guess I over simplified as lots of guys get testy when it's a "book" post. I honestly believe I would have gotten around him given the room... but I get scairt traveling that fast for that long on a major highway.. Tickets are ok. I earned it. But taking out some poor bastard on his way to work ? No sir.
Apreciate the input Superluminal.. I think it was simply either not running up to it's potential or he got nervous and backed off as well... I may never know..

Truthfully, I like the new Mustangs. I like the way they look and perform. With a good set of coilovers, I think they are great cars, so I'm not trying to put your car down in any way, I'm just telling you the facts. Anything is possible, something may have been wrong with his car who knows. Just telling you that a stock or mild EVO should give you a door to door run.

If he didn't go anywhere in 3rd sounds like he missed it and jumped all the way to 5th. Either way give em the finger and give em some change and be on your way.

there are 2 turbo lancers in the line up now. I think one has about(Ralliart) 237hp and then there is the regular Evo with the 291hp. The other lancer is the base model regular 4 cylinder have 152hp and another model that has 168hp. The older ones pull about 286hp, i really like the car it handles excellent, brakes very well and pulls decent once you get higher in the revs but has alot of room to modify to get good power out of it. I like the looks of the older models better. Stock to stock older Evo or new your stang should be able to slowly pull on the new one and shouldnt have much of a problem pulling on the older models on the highway.

He said it wasn't the newest generation so it wasn't the turbo ralliart.

That's only the newest generation. He didn't race one of those. So prior to that it was just the EVO that was turbo.
As far as the GT pulling on an EVO (both stock), assuming driver equal.... maybe way up top, but most likely both will be with in 1/2 a car of each other. From what I've seen both these cars trap the same speed in the 1/4 mile, so within that it should be very close. From a dig, the GT is going to get beat since most EVOs do low 13s in stock form, with a decent launch. I don't think a stock GT is going to pull better that a 1.8 60' on street tires.
In addition, when both cars get bolt ons, the GT is toast. The AWD system really shines when power is added.

Um I think that evo needs a driver mod, He should have slowly walked away from you if your all stock and he has atleast an exhaust. Still the Evo driver sounds like a total moron. I'd love to run into him with my 2g or my Z28 lol, Damnit winter can't be over fast enough!!!!!

That's true, a full exhaust on these 4 cylinder turbo cars can net 20+whp in some cases, depending on how restrictive the factory one is. Turbo cars don't need a lot of back pressure so when you open them up with a 3" full exhaust and delete the cats, they gain a good amount of power. That's why I don't understand how the GT was pulling like the EVO was standing still. Even if it had issues, it still should have put up a fight. I still think he raced a regular Lancer.
Either way, it be interesting to run that EVO in either of my cars. I think I could toy with him and still win.

SRT4's are FWD and they are pushing some bad ass times with mods. My buddys Turbo 420A GS on stock suspension and 26 lbs of boost ran 10.55 1/4. Of course he had really really sticky tires on that beotch lol. I will say I do enjoy it as a DD. Some day I'll do an AWD conversion lol.
