Cobalt not intimidated by the LS1

So I went to get my oil changed by a lube shop (1st time not doin it myself to see what they can diagnose). The 1st kid asks me to pop my hood, he sees the motor, STB, intake, and Granatelli, K&N, Hooker, & Jasper stickers on my radiator shield. He starts talkin to one of his friends saying something like "that an ls1?" then asked me if it's a stick. I tell him it's not a stick but I've got a built tranny. I hand them my Mobil 1 and K&N oil filter and as they are doing the change, this older guy looks at my engine and tells some kid my age "hey, he'd beat you easily." That kid turned around and said, "no way (unheard)"...Later someone asks me if I'd race a Cobalt SS and I just laugh. I talk to the owner and he tells me he has an intake, chip, exhaust, & is running near the Stage 3 Cobalt SS'. He said he'll be at a local hot spot tomorrow if I want to race. I asked him if he's really that confident that he'll win and he instantly said yes. I then asked if he would like to start on a 50 MPH roll then he didn't say much. I told him how I beat an NSX and STi on the highway and wouldn't mind showing him how.

After I left every single person was literally staring at me as I was leaving talking to the guy and looking at me leave. Hmm...

Oh yea, and my car took 6.5 bottles of Mobil 1. IDK why.

As long as you are a halfway decent driver, you could easily beat that car, whether it's from a dead stop or from any kind of roll.

I saw one run a 14.3 at the track and that was stock. There is a guy in Indiana that runs this, 2006 CobaltSS, 276 WHP = 12.85@109 1.91 60'. So some are pretty fast. Run him and find out. I would think you would beat him though, every talks crap and I doubt it is a Stage 3.

the ss/sc cobalt's are some vicious when they are modded. The kid at the oil shop would get beat by you. As for the cobalt it is a good car the big down fall to it is the stock clutch, it blows big time. My best bud had one with stage 2 an and intake, he then went with an aftermarket pully an billet aluminum one because the gm was heavy as shit, to put it down he was shoving out 261whp and 240 somethin wtq. He was beating stock ls1's. There is a couple twin charged cobalts in the high 300's whp.

I always wondered how fast and reliable they could be.

Anyway, that post was yesterday..what do you have for us today. I hope i hear results. I cant stand people saying theyll race whenever, then we never hear back from then.

Twin charged usually means a turbo piggybacked on the s/c... I honestly think you'd win.

Turbo AND Supercharger. Best of both worlds, but expensive.

You would have no problem beating him, as long as you can drive and from a roll it shouldn't even be close. Put the punk kid is his place!

shouldnt be close? did u read my post? click on my link? for 1399 in mods a cobolt has 260 WHEEL hp and has run ( mike at newera) 13.7 at 107....tells me off the line u shouldnt have much trouble with one....but from a roll a 107 trap is dead even

    from a 60 MPH roll a cobalt SS with a gm stage 2 will be in 2nd gear...I own a 00 SS and a cobalt stage 2...

You better have some work done to your LS1...there is replacement for displacement..its called forced induction. from 40-120 I put MAYBE 2 1/2 cars on a stage 2 cobalt...and I have 3:42s (6 speed)...

Good luck if he truly has a stage 3 kit on it from intense or cobalt addiction.

But then again I don't know anythign about your car...but I hope you have full bolt ons. And the guys yelling "you'll stomp him especially from a roll"...are clueless and have obvioulsy never raced one.

    Go from a stop...FWD = crap launch...LS1 = nasty launch...

    from a 45-60MPH roll...cobalt = you being very suprised
