I hate it when people don't know anything about cars they have when they try to brag them up. I guess some people just like to sound stupid.

The only third Gen's to look out for are the `89 Turbo Trans Am's and `91-2 FireHawks. Either of these would be a good run with an LS1.

I don't think any stock 3rd gen could hang with an LS1...

The 89 Turbo T/A had 250HP and weighed in at 3346lbs...definitely not a close race.

Not sure on the specs for the 91-92 Firehawk though, perhaps that was more powerful

A know a few 3rd gens in my area that have no problems with LS1's. Of course they have big blocks stuffed in them!

Don't knock it till you try it
Stock Turbo T/A's will run mid 13's easily
And `91-2 hawks have 350HP (not like you'll ever see one on the street anyway). Like I said on the street stock for stock either is a good run for an LS1.

i know of a guy that has a 91 model camero that he retrofitted with a 454, would this be a good race for someone? It seems kinda sluggish IMO.

It depends if it's a stock 454. They are not that good stock, but once you add a couple of extra inches on, some better compression, a good cam and port the heads they make really good power and will be fast.

Let be known that the TTA's Hp rating was lowballed due to the fact that the corvette of 1989 was rated at 255. It is still known as one of the quickest trans ams made. Yes most 3rd generation are slow, but what was considered slow now, was slightly fast then. A stock tta and a stock LS1 should be a driver's race in the quarter with the LS1 pulling away easily at the upper end. However since we are talking about the turbocharged buick 3.8 and how easily they respond to modifications, most TTAs and Grand nationals that you come across are not stock and easily run deep in the 12 sec 1/4 with minimal investment.
