Maroon- 97 Camaro
when puting the top down...
Hi all,
I have an auto 97 camaro vert. would anyone know if its possible to rig up the convertible top to go up/down without it being in park? I know it's for safety(i think?), but is there a way to bypass it? It's pretty irritating to always have to put it in park to operate the thing. I'd appreciate any help!

I can put it up or down while driving in my 1998 so it looks like it may be a pre 98 thing like Y2KPewterSS.

My wifes 97 goes up and down at any speed and any gear,,,but it's a 6-speed,,,,must be a "97 only thingy with automatic"
My 02 is an automatic and it also goes up in down while in gear as well. They must have changed to this in 98?
Sounds as though the 93-97 "automatic" verts wouldn't do this??????

I thought only the stangs had that sort of lock out on the top? Maybe yours was added on after market?

Yikes,,,,I don't do it past,,,say,,,30 mph or less,,,but generally wait for a stoplight. Sheeeesh,,,65 mph????
That thing would act like a huge parachute,,,,I would think that would be hard on the motor/hydraulics not to mention take a chance of tweaking all the arms and hinges,,,that stuff is not all that strong. Just my take on it.

My 99 is an auto and I can lower/put up my top at any speed I consider sane.
Must be peculiar to your car?

sheyitttttttt I'd beat the shit out of somebody moving my top up or down while going 65. Mine moves at speeds of no more than 25 or 30 I usually wait till i'm at a stop light or parked somewhere
