Top needs help to go down

It just started happening the other day. I have to give it a little push to get it going and then it goes down. I haven't checked the manual yet as I am lazy. Just wondering if these things need to have fluid added occasionaly and what type of maintenance I need to do.

When this happens, most likely you are low on fluid. Check the motor's resevoir under the carpet in the driver's-side trunk well. Should be ~ 1/2 full of fluid (between two lines on resevoir). Our motors are notorious for leaks. If low, remove plug on top and top-off w/ mineral oil (GM's recommendation).

If you have a leak (most do), not sure what can be done to stop it short of a new motor, and even then the new one will probably leak too. I've yet to see a "fix" posted that fixes the leak permanently.

If for some reason your motor does need to be replaced, I have one from my previous vert I would be willing to sell for a very reasonable price

Start by checking the fluid level first like Johnny mentioned.

Thanks for the response I'll check the fluid level. If I end up needing a motor I'll let you know.

also, when the top is closed, open the valve and close it completely... will reset the pressure in the system... might help.

Where exactly is this valve located? My top is a little slow up and down, so I thought I might try this.

How long should a properly functioning top take to fully open and fully close?

opposite side of the spare tire in the trunk
open the trunk, on the driver side, you'll see a little trap door.... lift it and there is a knob.
