Do I need the steam pipe on the back of the lt1 heads or can I just put plugs in an eliminate it?

You need to keep it. LT1's have reverse flow cooling.

What dose it have to do with reverse cooling? The cooling reverse happens in the block and heads.

ok thanks. So because there is no cooling passages in the intake, steam or hot spots have to be bled back into the cooling system insted of out the thermo housing on the intake. Thanks for the help.

    Bingo.

GM Powertrain really had a winner when they came up with the LT1.
