    Max RPM question

I just got a Hypertech programmer and one of the options is that you can set what your rpm limiter is set to.. (stock 5700)... whats the highest one would recommend on a stock block? (intake and exhuast, but heads/cam/springs etc havent been touhed.) I think the max is said it could program is 6500rpm or something, but I was wonderin how wise it is to increase it at all.

Also, you can set the fan temp turn on times which i would like to change, but it tables the recommended temps according to if tou have a 160 degree thermo... i have stock (180 i think?) so what temps should i use?

    thanks all!

when I had my 97 anything over 5400 was absolutely killing my times at the strip. A stock LT1 doesn't make power over 5300-5400, and definitly don't go over that 5700

shifting about 500 rpm after peak horsepower is a good place to start. this helps put you back in the power band when shifting. No need to go over 5800 imo. So essentially just leave it alone. And dont put in the "power programming" from the hypertech. Use it for gears and fans and top speed limiter if you have one.

    http://www.ws6.com/mod-3.htm

i have the hpp, and im telling you for some reason it feels like the car got slower.
i changed everything that it asked for the thermostat, gears, even the octane and wheel radius. but it feels slower now. i've heard good things about the predator programmers
    havent tried it out though.

Some people have actually lost power, so it's easy to believe. Those things are junk for most people, as far as the actual power programming is concerned.

I have a madZ28 tune and he raised the limiter to 6000rpm. I like it because it allows me to go through the traps without hitting the limiter. An M6 is very close to the limiter in 3rd with stock gears at the end of a 1/4 mile. It generally works best for me to shift at 5500.
I ahve a friend that uses an LT1 for a daily driver and builds and races his own cars. He turns his as high as 7200 with only 1.6 roller rockers and has not hurt the engine. He has 240 K on the engine too.

I agree but the engine didn't seem to have a problem living with it for a long time. The guy is a serious engine buillder and races throughout the US. I was just surprised taht the engine would tolerate it.

I have a question about doing the Rev limiter and shiftpoints for HHP3

I have a 99 TA A4, Corsa cutback, SLP lid, SLP cold induction, SLP MAF and SLP thermo 160. what do I set my shift points to?

    1. shift points
I have used the max, is it bad? what has worked for you?
    1-2 +6mph
    2-3 +12mph
    3-4 +12mph

    2. rev limiter
I used the max 6600 rpm I believe. I know the power is around 5500 rpm so should I lower to 5000-4500?

    3. also, the gas stuff, RFG or non-RFG, I usually out 91 or 93 octane,
    is that RFG or non?

I don't know if it is good this way? What is the optimal configuration, anybody. please help

You should really post this question in the LS1 general tech area.. but in short... If I were you, given your mods, I would change pretty much all of that back to stock. Your rev limiter doenst need to be any higher than stock for sure.

yeah I heard mix messages about this, but stock should be sufficiently good for the rev limiter, the shift points and firmness really helps with HPP3. Thanks man,
    I'll repost on general area..
