lt1 newb question
when changing the opti on a 97 t/a are there any special tools needed to pull anything off. i was looking in the chiltons manual and it doesnt say anything about it. But i have heard that you need some kind of puller to do it.

I don't think you need any special tools, take off whatever blocks the opti and take the bolts loose that hold the opti down and it should just pull off

i believe you're talking about the dampener/balancer. how much does it turn. Spray some penetrating lube on the bolts and then crank on it. it might rotate a little bit, but your engine's compression should eventually hold it into place as long as your plugs are still in. then just undo the 3 10mm bolts holding the opti to the timing cover and slip it off past the crank hub.

Well i needed a pull kit for the harmonic balencer, but other than that and the normal grunts and groans, the opti is now done WOOT.
