Haulin' caprice
Before I got my Camaro, I had a '95 Caprice police car with the LT1 and that thing ran!!! I was able to easily take on the Mustangs and embarass them with a big boat. It was always over 100 in the quarter and flew top end as well. Any idea how many horses those cars have with the police package? It has to be way more than the stock LT1 to make them that fast!!! Any info?

It wasn't much more than a corvette or camaro. They had a custom PCM program they ran I think but it's the LT1's 325+ftlb of torque at bellow 2500 that got those pigs moving + the LT1 head was the best flow-ing head chevy had ever made back then. It was better than any casted head you could buy from GM preformance parts for a gen small block.

you just had yourself a venerable LT. put the 6 spd camaros into the 13s in 1993. . .mustangs are just now crackin 300 horse and 13s fifteen years later.

Stock LT1 caprices dont run over 100mph in the 1/4. Alot of LT1 f bodies didnt run 100mph in the 1/4, and they were over 500 pounds lighter and had more power. The LT1 in the caprices made 260hp, and I believe about the same torque as the f body motor give or take 5 ft lbs.

Thats why I asked. Every Caprice / Impalla SS Ive ever been in was doggy too. I sold this one to my brother cheap and hes still taking out Mustangs on a regular basis. Thats why I was wondering if the police cars have different computers or something. It just makes no sense for that boat to run that good.

The 9C1 cars wont run any better than an Impala SS... should be about the same.

Really, I can't complain too much about my dads Caprice. Its got a swapped LT1 in it...its not fast but its got more giddyup than something comperable. We set it up for CNG though.....nothing beats passing cars going like 60 during rush hour in the carpool lane. I've been driving it all the time when he goes out of town.

yea, They are not that special. 265hp and 330ftlbs and yes the cast iron lt1 heads where the best flowing heads of all, they modeled the vortec heads after them. I am currently doing a LT1 swap on a 89 boxy 9C1 to replace the doggy ass 190hp tbi 350 it came with.

Ya the GM vortec Gen 1 head is the same thing as the LT1 heads used ,,,,only difference is the reverse flow cooling.

9c1's didn't shut down till 155mph, had heavier sway bars, and I believe brake cooling ducts as part of the chin air dam...
