fuel leak at header........wtf????
So I just finished replacing the dreaded intake manifold gasket three days ago. I start the car up and its blowing fuel out of the left side of the engine where the header meets the head. At first we thought the injector plugs for 5 and 7 may have been switched however they were not. I'm at a loss as to what could be causing this. Any input asap would be excellent. Anyone had this issue before???

So you are saying that fuel is leaking out inbetween the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head?

Yea, been reading forums on-line and only found a few with anything similar. I really think now the leak is coming from the intake manifold if thats possible. Never had any problems with the car, ever, now its becoming a pain. Might be time to upgrade.

well if i understand your description correctly, it's bout damn near impossible to get unburnt fuel to leak anywhere near your header. it is possible (way more likely) for your intake manifold to leak fuel, but still unlikely. wait till all the fuel is dried up, and then have someone else either turn the key to prime system while your head is in there (hopefully fuel leaks out) or, have them rev motor while your head is in there so you can pinpoint where it is leakin' from.

So I removed the fuel rail today AGAIN checked injectors and their o-rings and put it back on. Started the car and a small fire as well. Luckily my "spidey-sense", 8 years as a firefighter told me to have a dry chem standing by.
My reasoning for a leak from intake manifold....didn't do it before the replacement. Im thinking as I was working and had someone else do the work that its possible the gasket slipped off when the manifold was put back on. The injectors are good, the cylinder isnt dead, I can't think of anything else than fuel leaking from the intake manifold. It wasn't just dripping, it was spraying and I mean spraying with force.

this is all on your LT? is one of your injectors cracked? if it's spraying w/ force it's gotta be shooting outta a cracked rail or cracked injector. maybe the shroeder valve on the rail is broken/loose? loose fuel lines maybe. a fuel leak from a manifold not sealing would be a trickle to say the least, as fuel would only shoot from the injector when the intake valve is open/opening. i think your problem is in the rail, need 2 people to diagnose this one.

Yea its on an LT. Nope, the injectos and rail are fine. I wish there was a way to explain the exact location where its spraying. It's to the rear of the motor, driver's side. It's blowing the fuel out in-line with the exhaust which as you know is in-line with the point where the intake manifold sits on the block. Ive never had any major problems with this car but to be honest im lost with this issue.

Are the fuel lines loose? If you wiggle it around after the pump has cycled, it my spray.

Oh, the fuel lines are tight. I'm baffled by this issue.

Have you checked to make sure there isn't a hole in the fuel line? They are plastic and could have been kinked when you pulled everything.
