fed up, leaky oil cooler lines
What does everyone think, pro/con about eliminating the oil cooler? I'm on my second line set and now it's leaking. My car is my daily driver and I'm retired so not long commutes in traffic; I don't race, don't tow, don't abuse. I'd get the filter adapter swapped and be done with the drips on my garage floor. Is the oil cooler a must have, or can we live without it and not do ruinous harm?

I'd have no problems running without a oil cooler under normal driving conditions.

You'll be fine. Most LT1 F bodies dont have one and are just fine. I'd have to be doing some hardcore road racing before I'd get one. Run good synthetic oil if you are worried about it at all.

Thanks guys, that's what I thought, but you never know. I figure the oil cooler was designed for cop cars and taxi that idle a lot. Those lines are sure a lously design, seems they could have been made leak proof. I didn't know F's did not have. BTW, I use Mobil 1 ........Douglas

Mobil one isnt going to get anywhere near hot enough during normal street driving that you'd have to worry about it. I run mobil one in my circle track car, and we arent allowed to run a cooler. That engine runs for stints sometimes as long as 20+ minutes, with engine speeds between 4000-7000rpm the entire time, and it holds up just fine.
