    52mm vs 58mm

I see a lot of comments on this site about the uselessness of the twin 58mm throttle bodies. Most of you say just stick with the 52, anything more is just a waste.

My question is, when is it not a waste? When does it actually make sense to upgrade to a 58 as apposed to the stock 52? Be specific, I lack car smarts.

What other people are going to say...which is said for LS1s too, is that youd buy a bigger TB when you add cam + heads, then maybe its worth it.

I dont know how fast people are running with stock TBs in LT1s, but people are running 10s with their stock TBs in their LS1s...I doubt its a much different scenario.

Good rule of thumb...if a product is questioned more than its praised, then it sucks. E.g. headers are always good. TBs or Mass Air Meters?...debatable

if you are going all out, not wanting to leave any hp on the table, then its worth looking at. i got a monoblade from ASM but i am going all out.

relatively easy mod thats not too expensive that will give a little horsepower is a big factor why its done, take a look at a ruler on how big 48, 52 and 58mm is and the differences between them and then look at something like the ASM monoblade and you'll see where the ASM monoblade is needed for big power cars and heads and cam guys like the 58mm and 52mm a little more

Bigger isn't always better, especially in the case of LT1 throttle bodies. The stock 48mm throttle body is just fine for a moderately built LT1. Don't expect to see much if any by going with a 52 or 58mm on a car with stock heads.

the way i always see parts like this... its never gonna hurt anything, but dont make it ur first mod. focus on the important parts (heads, cam, exhaust) then when ur trying to squeeze a little more hp out of your car buy the stuff like that. parts like throttle body make a bigger diference when coupled with heads, cam, etc anyway.

Great point. My advice is don't waste a good $350 bucks on something you don't need.

do what i did and port it out with a dremel tool for free (if u already have one or steal ur dads) and put the $350 towards something thatl make a little more of a difference. (might i suggest nitrous oxide)

well im not sure if u can port the lt1 throttle bodies but i think the blades they make for em do the same thing and their like 20 bucks

ok u now have $330 to spend on something else!

Suppose one of your mods is a supercharger. Would it make more sense to get a larger throttle body then? I think i have iron vortec heads as well, but to tell you the truth, i dont really know what that means.
