A 10 bolt is solid........but it really depends on how hard do you drive it? Slicks?

If the car here in question is a 6 speed, not long at all.

Lots of auto guys last quite a while with the ten bolt, but in my opinion it's still a crapshoot. I'm sure there are plenty of auto guys that have snapped the ten bolt as well.

I'm an auto and it last for a good while (about 100,000 miles and close too 200 passes down the track). Like 5.0 said it's a crapshoot.

like the others said , if you have a 6 speed it will blow out with stock hp on slicks. if you have an auto it will last a little longer, if it is set up correctly as far as backlash and pinion angle. if you buy a 12 bolt you better get race axles. i bent my strange street/track axles while only putting 320's to the ground on my old setup.

Stick to talking out of both sides of your mouth......what is really wrong with what I said and different from what you said? If you quoted me properly, you would'nt have left the last part of my post out where I said "....but it really depends on how hard do you drive it? Slicks?"

Something tells me you like to hear yourself talk.

Actually, your post was a bunch of bullshit no matter how I quoted it. A ten bolt is solid?!?! No it isnt, no matter what drivetrain is in front of it. Just you saying that proves you know nothing about our ten bolt rear axles. And no, alot of times it doesnt matter how hard you drive it, or on what tires. They have broken many times at stock power levels, on street tires. But what do I know, I just like to hear myself talk.

I put a set of 4.10's in my 10 bolt and have sprayed the hell out of the old vortec and now I"m abusing it with the LS1. So far no problems but I've seen plenty of 10 bolts fly apart like 5.0THIS says. I had 2 ford 9" and sold them before I put the LS1 in. Too bad because one was out of a Lincoln with disc brakes on it. We chopped it up and it's in a Pro Street S-10 now. If my 10 goes, I'll probably install a 9.

The stock 10 bolt, S10-derived diff is considered the weakest of its class.
How long it lasts depends on multiple factors: How strong it is individually, how you drive it, what type of traction you have, and the type of transmission you have.
The main thing to understand is to not be surprised if it blows up. If it does not, more power (no pun intended) to you.
I do have a friend who blew up his SS diff while still under warranty, everything stock. On the other hand, I have made multiple passes with my stock diff, no problems. Go figure.

You're obviously gay and mistake me for one of your homo buddies, cause you wouldn't be trying to ride my ass so hard if you weren't. What's your problem with me dude?

......and people think the majority of camaro guys are a bunch of diks (wonder why?).

You all need to grow up.

As said by many people, it's a crap shoot and you never know how long it will last until it blows up. As you have an A4 it will probably last for awhile. I'd stud it, put a girdle on it, and start saving for a 12 bolt or nine inch.

Aside from having an open diff the rear used in the 2WD S-10s is exactly the same as ours.
