    ws6 factory shifter question

anyone have a problem with them? when i first got the car it was very easy shifting, however when shifting hard from 2nd to 3rd it's getting more and more elusive. seems like it jams between 3rd and 5th. and it's getting worse. thing only has 20 000 miles on it. any thoughts?

    Not the shifter.

It is the tranny. The 2-3 shift fork is a pain...
    Labor is the expensive part.

    Most likely.

Common issue. They aren't the strongest piece in the stock T56.
    Waiting for mine to go.

Sometimes it gets bad enough to pop out of gear without the handle being touched or the clutch being engaged.

I think the shifter has some to do with it though. I had an 02 WS6 and no issues to start with but once it got about 20K on it it started to pop out of 3rd. That one had the stock Hurst in it. My 01 T/A didn't have any shifting issues, but I put a Pro 5.0 in it as soon as I got it with just under 20K on it and I still don't have any issues with it. Now I'm about 45K on it. Could be a coincidence, but thought I'd give my .02.

Most people I know notice a bit of a difference.

Some guys like the Pro 5.0, some prefer the Hurst. Both with a short handle shift VERY well.

not mine. it used to shift really well but now i have to hunt third. i cant just slam it in. sucks for racing. once it's in it's just fine and shifts to fourth like a champ.

    That makes little sense though...

The shifter itself shouldn't go bad.

Pro 5.0 makes it all better from 2 to 3 imo.

Any of the Factory shifters (Including the Hurst) have a rubber isolator at the base of the stick.
This is for reducing noise inside the cabin but makes for a sloppy and sometimes uncertain feeling during shifting. My advice is to first try swapping out the stick.

To me the factory Hurst wasn't much better than the standard base factory shifter. I like the Pro 5.0 much better.

^+2. When I replaced my factory (non-Hurst) shifter, I found the stick was attached to the shifter by only ONE bolt, the other bolt was found laying on the floor pan wedged under the carpet. GM quality! Never ground or missed 3rd gear or did the dreaded 3-2-when-going-to-4th shift after my Pro 5.0 was installed w/ a cut-down solid stick.
