White stuff on my engine block?
I have a 02 TA and i live in FL, when i first bought the car from a used car dealer i noticed the engine bay was nice and shiny and it seemed to have something sprayed all over it. the next day i looked and my engine block had this white stuff all over it but only in the front. does anyone know what i can do to get rid of this or what it is? PLEASE HELP!!

I've had the same stuff on mine. Mine came from water coming out of the radiator. I had a blown head gasket though. What that is, is just water residue.

I'm assuming that you arent leaking antifreeze anywhere. If it keeps coming back its probably due to the air there in FL. Do any of the other cars out there do the same thing??

No i dont have any anti freeze leaks. ive seen it on some aluminum down here, do you know how to get rid of it? ive tried aluminum wax and degreaser and as soon as the block dries it shows up again. is there anything to keep the block shiny and wet kind of like armor all for your interior?

In all reality its not doing anything. I think that its just salt. Its going to keep getting there due to the air there in FLA. It wont hurt the block. It wont corrode anything. Dont worry about that sort of thing man. Just have fun driving it.

It looks like chemical corrosion. The stuff the dealer sprayed on to make it look shiney is probably what did it. If you wipe your hand across it, does it make your hand white? Try a wire brush or wheel. The only way to get rid of it is to polish the aluminum.

Probably salt water, I had the same thing happen to my old car and i live 10 minutes from the ocean. If you use a little steel wool, and wipe it down with a rag and scrub it with a brush and water, then make sure you dry it real good with a towl, it will look a lot newer. this only works on the surface of the engine block itself, because other smaller metalic stuff might rust.

that happened to my car... dealership cleaned the engine with super clean and it etched all the aluminum... you have to pretty much polish it to get it out. mothers metal polish works good but it is impossible to clean it all due to tight spaces in the engine.
Mine has slowly gone away over the last year, but fuck was i mad when that happened

Yea man i wasent happy when i saw that, the only thing i could really polish was the big flat side near the battery the rest is way to tight to get to. Dont they have any spray polish or something you can use to go to those tight spots? if not they should!

I am having the same problem. I don't have any sort of water leak or antifreeze. This white powder just want dissapear. I like you have tried some of everything. I think that it's the humidity and the alluminum engines.
