l thought maybe LS1 would have faster top end but new stangs goes 180+mph. and if you put the car on jack stand with 3.55 gears on 5th gear at 6k RPM 221mph.
a guy tested his car with a tester on mustang forums and he hit 176mph on a straight highway with his 2006 mustang GT!
l think LS1s should go at least 170mph too.

Jackstands doesn't count.
Wind drag creates a ton of resistance...top speed has to be actually driven to.

The LS1 Firebirds, despite their poor sales, were among the fastest ever produced. They featured an all aluminum 5.7L V8 designated the LS1, with 305 hp (310 after 2000), or 320 hp (325 after 2000) for the Ram Air version. The rare Firehawk model made by SLP and sold through Pontiac dealerships had 330 hp (345 after 2000). Even the V6 had a bump to 205 hp. The average ΒΌ mile times for these were 15.2 @ 90 mph for the V6 and 13.4 @ 106 mph for the V8. The V6 models were as quick as almost any V8 produced before 1990, while the V8 Firebirds were faster than almost anything produced in the muscle car era (including all Firebirds). Top Speeds for both the V6 and the V8 versions were governed according to their factory tire ratings. Typically, these limits were 105, 112, 118 mph for the V6 models, but these limits varied from car to car. V8 models that had Z rated tires had a speed limiter set to 162 mph. Models that came with GS-C or RS-A tires were limited to 123 mph.

Simply because I know my car will do it, so I want to let it. Besides its fun, as long as you have a safer type area to do it. I say safer type because there isn't much safe about going 160+ down the hiway..
The new Mustang GT does NOT go 170mph... Believe me, a friend of mine has one with the 5spd, a cai, and an exhaust system, light tune, we topped at 148 with just me and him in it, maybe 300lbs. It may come close on power, but it weighs sooo much more, its like a tank in comparrison.

not defending new stangs or not trying to start a mustang vs. f-body top speed fight on LS1 but l gotta say this.. l hit 110mph at the top of the 3rd gear. and on fourth gear l was like buried the speedo (l ddint pay attention to RPM) but l could still go on 4th gear.. and imagine there is one more gear! and also while l was on high 130s and low 140s, the car was still pulling!
that dude, showed proofs that he did 176mph on mustang forums.. l will see if l can find that thread..
and l believe an LS1 f-body should top end as much as mustang if not faster!

Read in Car & Driver that they had a hard top past 170 mph at Taladaga (sp) speedway. I think it was around 2000.

My top speed is probably about one mile an hour faster than I trap in the 1/4.

In what a supercharged Saleen?!? Or a Roush Stage 3?
There is no way the weak ole 2000 GT did anything like that.
Unless it was an '03 Cobra
I don't know what anyone is thinking but the '06 Mustang Gt's do not pop off 170+ mph in factory form. Infact just read, top speed 143mph on '06 Mustang GT. So I don't know what that guy did but 143 to over 170 is a pretty large difference from multiple tests, and my personal expierience in a 100 mile straight stretch of hiway.
And just to clarify I have nothing against the Mustang personally I do respect the car, even though I do not like them, and I will never own one.
