OP, could be any number of things, you say RPMs affect the noise, not speed, correct? could be anything in front of the output shaft on your transmission,

I would guess it's something on your pulley drive, but that is a very uneducated guess.

IMO its not worth it you can get them from KYspeed mark is a wicked cool guy, or most of our other sponsors, but im one of those guys that upgrades once i break it. therefor i would be looking into a 12B or a 9"

Depends on what is bad in the rear end. Could be the pinion bearing, the carrier itself, ect. The sound occurs when the rpms are higher but your speed doesn't affect it? Does it only occur while accelerating or all the time?

thats what I would find out,

OP, try maintaining a constant speed at a high rpm, if the whining still occurs, it is NOT your rear end.

Sounds like the rear end... I would first check the fluid. If it's low, fill it up and hopefully you didn't run it dry for too long to do any real damage. If it's not low, you could potentially have bigger issues.

If you are at the backside of your car looking at the rear end from underneath, slightly above the center of the "chunk" is a cap. That is the fill port for the rear end. Take that cap off and put your finger in (quick and easy way) and try to feel how far down the level is... hopefully you can feel fluid. If not, I recommend getting some rear end fluid asap. If that doesn't fix it (assuming it is the rear end making the noise), you have some bearings that are going bad. Hopefully the rear end issue is not the source of the noise. If you're not too sure, i recommend getting a friend (someone that is mechanically inclined; and cheap too), or go to a reputable shop and pay the diagnostic fee. I hope that this helps.

If you're sitting in neutral/park and rev the car, do you hear the wine? Does the wine come and go with the rev?

This is what mine did about 6mo ago and it was the fuel pump.
