Why not put a dime into it, its a good platform to learn on and easy to fix if something fucks up.
Any thing that cam on a V8 car will fit on a V6 save for the obvious motor parts. But any cat back and suspenion piece will fit.
If you wany more info on building the V6 ther area few guys that ahve built some stout number off of it. Post in the V6 section to get a better idea. You also ahve to think out side the box a bit to with the V6 and cross platform it, looking for performance parts used on other GM platforms that had/have the same motor. Namely the S10s and smaller Pontiacs.

They should interchange but you would be looking at fitment issues because of the limited hood clearance, thats what you need to be aware of but it would give you a good start for suppliers and ideas. Also be aware that GM has two different versions of V6 out there. A 90 and 60 degree version. I'm not sure which though cam in what and when.

A v8 swap on a v6 car would seriously outweigh just buying a LS1 powered car.
Tranny, rear end, the harness is probably different. Plus the major pain in the ass it would be. Im sure the motor mounts are different... are they not? Just buy a LT1 if you really want that... or step up and get an LS1.
I would never try and make a v6 fast/ have more HP. These things are already money pits... why dump thousands in a v6 and still run mid 13's?370 CI - Twin 6766 Turbo - Jakes stage 5 4L80E - MWC 9" - Holley Dominator
Build in progress...
