I go to shows to show mine off. If I get a trophy it's nice if not no skin off my back.
If the trophy came with cash then that may be different.

To be a little less mystic, if you are going to a show with the expectation to win, I would advise against it, especially the larger shows, as people there are more likely to have garage queens and judges with better knowledge, and keener eyes.
Trans Am Terry and I went to an all-Pontiac show in PA a few weeks ago, and the stock 4th Gens had to have at least 20-25 entrants with at least one CETA. So every scratch/crack/ ding / bubble is that much harder to get around in order to place.
I was in the modded section, and my car is a daily driver , 70 miles x 18 trips a month, and a 167,000 on the odo , people were surprised how high the mileage was as I keep as good care of it as I can, but it has its blemishes, and I have no garage to keep it in, and no second car to keep it clean for long periods at a time. Out of the seven cars, in my class, I didn't place, and really I shouldn't have, until I pretty much realign the body and totally repaint, al least the bumpers and the cracked door.
Did I have a good time? Yes
Would I have had a better time if our PA guys had come down? Yes (not naming names but you know who you are)
The important thing is to go and have fun, talk to people, and learn some stuff.

I'm hoping to have my car back up and running before Cruising the Coast coming in Oct. It's a big cruise in and show that takes up the entire Gulf Coast of MS. It's a week long with many events. It has something for every one. Last year I went to the swap meet and met Jeff Lutz and saw his Pro Mod Camaro, one damn wicked car.
