nope....the SCCA owns the orginal and current "screaming chicken" designs, however the word "TransAm" is registered to GM.

Negative. Just got off the phone with GM Liscensing and they told me that T/A is GM's but the birdie is SCCA's and I'd have to contact SCCA to get offical liscensing rights to that logo

In 1969, a $725 optional handling package called the "Trans Am Performance and Appearance Package," which included a rear spoiler, was introduced. Named after the Trans-Am Series, the name was used without permission and the SCCA threatened to sue. But GM settled the deal by paying US$5 to the SCCA for every car sold. --- Another incorrect Wikipedia entry. Sometimes I wonder why I even look at that site anymore, lol.

i read some where that in 1969 one of the guys from pontiac was loking for a way to make the firebird set apart from the camaro, so he looked in to scca racing and using ther logo and name trans am, and ther was a deal made wich was if the first someany car pontiac had to pay the scca 15 bucks and if ther was more then what ever it was going to be 5 bucks ... i may have read that looking up the where the ws-6 came from or what year one ment .. wich the owner of year one loved his 1969 trans am loved the life style that came with it thats my 2 cents

I also thought it was the other way around. GM paying SCCA $5 to use the "Trans Am" name for their car, on every car they sold with the "Trans Am" name. I heard/read this at least 20 years ago.
