Trans am for 6,500?
well this guy says he is selling his trans am for 6,500. and that it has a new LS1 motor in it with only 18k miles on it? He says GM installed the LS1 and has the papers for it, is there any other way to tell if it is a new motor? He said he has to sell it cuz he has some kids on the way. Here are some pics of the car, kinda small and not great quality. Im thinkin of getting it and the just getting it painted black also he said its a metallic orange, and that the day was cloudy when he took these pics?

Need more details.
What year?
How many miles total?
Damaged previously?
Communication only by email so far?
Where's it located?
Is he in an overseas country & the car in the States? (If so, that's usually the first sign of scams.)Last edited by PontiacFan; 02-20-2008 at 06:49 PM.

That's a good way to get LS1 power cheap assuming there are no major issues (former wrecks, etc). Very basic, but its a start.

he lives in Va like I do, he said he has a kid so he has 2 sell it, also he didnt put the engine in, he got it that way. WE have talked on the phone and im going to see it today. he said 130k on the chassie and 18k on the motor. I have another thread up with the Vin# someone posted it, it didnt have anything about a wreck or anything.

Well, I went and test drove it, it runs better then the trans am I had. (as in when I shift through gears 1-2-3-D-R-P it doesnt jump (while not moving) Lights worked, windows worked. He showed me the paper (and I took pics of it) sayin it has a new engine in it, im gonna call and make sure monday. It shows the guy b4 him paid 5,284.00 for the new engine and 200 for something else. part # is 88894086.
serial number is 2G2FV22GEW (then it runs into motor # so I dont know if this 2 goes on the serial # or motor #) but the motor # is 2225957

So what year is it? You should ask him why exactly the original motor was replaced. Did he drive it into the ground or what. I don't like buying relatively new cars with motor reinstalls.

98, it says on the paper the engine locked up and there was no oil, there was a hole in the oil filter. (thats what is says on the paper) So the old man bought a new engine and new spark plug.

ok. well 6500 to me sounds like a good price. do you have a buddy or someone who knows a lot about cars to go out there and look at the car again with you? It's always good to get a second opinion from someone who actually sees the car first hand.

good luck, it actually looks really nice from the photos. I'm not too crazy about the color, but at least its an ls1 and the body looks the same as the 02.
