    Tick, Tick, Ticking sound.....

Everytime I start my car I hear a "ticking sound". Then when I put it in drive and actually drive the ticking accelerates!!! And when I am at idle it just keeps "ticking". It is more annoying then anything and I have tried to grease the belts and that doesn't help. What could it be??

This may be a stupid question but what are the "pulleys" and isn't that dangerous for the belts? If it's even close to the belts.

no it doesn't it constantly does it warm or cold, and i know what your talking about that is common. I don't think this ticking is! someone in the post above you said spray wd40 on the pulleys what are the pulleys and isn't that dangerous to spray wd40 on the pulleys or is that ok?

Is your car a 6 speed or a autoo? If it is a 6 speed have you ever missed a shift any maybe went to 2nd instead of 4th? If so you have a bent pushrod I bent 2 of them in my car doing that same thing. I was drunk and was out playing and you see what you get.

i'd stay away from that. i hope its not valvetrain noise or you'll be in trouble. try replacing your belt first.

i guess be careful but ls1's are notorious for belt slippage so wd40 deff wont help that if it gets on the inside of the belts

It might just be your lifters ticking alittle try some Lucas oil and see if that helps it any. And as far as I know it does hurt to get wd40 on the belt you can put belt dressing shit on there that is just like wd40 so It won't hurt. And your pulleys are the thing's that your belt rides around on.

So you think i can put belt dressing on the pulleys without harming them? Cause i tried that on the actual belts and that didn't help at all.

im going to say its your lifters....or an exhaust leak some where i had an exhaust leak and fixed that but then i put a set of harland sharp roller rockers and the clatter kinda sounded like it so u might want to check your exhaust..

Dont think it's an exhaust leak everything looks pretty solid there! what do lifters do and how much is that cost to fix? And is it really worth it? What if i leave the ticking will it hurt me in the long run?

I would say Orangecrush may have it..
    How loud is the ticking?
A pinhole exhaust leak can cause it to sound like ticking.
it could also be one of the pulleys has something in it.
Your Torque converter might have debris on it.
If it is chattering and not ticking, check your valvetrain.
The trick is to listen to where it is coming from with the engine running.

You suggest using wd40 on the pulleys to lube them up?....

No actually I wouldn't. I try to avoid putting a lubricant on pulleys unless I know that's the problem. Find out where exactly the ticking is coming from. If you don't know where it is coming from you can cause more work than you need. An old trick is to use a piece of hose, and putting one end up to your ear, and moving it around until you get to the spot that the ticking is loudest. Once you know where it is coming from, then you can tell what needs to be done.
