Throttle Body Spacer??

I know this is not the v6 forum but no one goes on the v6 forum anymore.. So i am sorry i dont have a v8, im in school so money is low!

I have a 99 3.8 firebird. Engine completly rebuilt bottom to top, new GM long block bored over .30. shaved heads, k&n cold air intake and performance chip. I was wondering if anyone has information on a throttle body spacer. Does it truly add HP and TQ? Has anyone ever used an item like this?

My feeling is that the gains would be negligible at best. Certainly nothing you are going to feel in the seat of your pants.

The only true benefit to these is the revenues generated back to the sellers.
Save your money.
Not worth the powder to blow them up.
Of course they look real sexy in the designer colors that are available. Under hood glitz.

On our v8's, more specifically on our intake setup, we cant benefit much, if at all. This is because of our very short intake line that is nearly a straight line. Tb spacers benefit a twisted long intake line more (I'm not saying they're worlds of difference) because they help twist the air flow and create a steady/consistent stream of air into the Tb because the more turns and more length that exists, the sloppier the air flow is. In a game of 1/4 miles, this one is measured in the inches, but some argue every bit helps.

Id put this mod down there with a tower strut brace.

To be honest I think im going to grab one. I saw a friend dyno with and without and it made a little difference, but an anodized blue one would look cool next to my elite engineering cc

All I can say is that the brace tighten up my front suspension a lot, less body roll and is flat in a 180 turn doing 50 getting on the hwy. Say what you will but I think for autoX its a good upgrade, for straight line = no benefits

Imho your better off getting a tune or better, getting a SD tune than buying a TB spacer.

His dyno results said an almost 5hp difference. I don't know how accurate that is to the mod but its interesting none the less. Plus it's only like 50 bucks.

Without consistant results from multiple dyno pulls with and without the spacer, I definately wouldn't attribute a 5 hp difference to the spacer. There are far better, proven products I'd look at purchasing first. But to each his own.

The pp on the throttle body would be great. From what I'm reading though the underdrive pulley doesn't give that much and cab possibly be detrimental to your engine. Thoughts?
