thinking of selling the t/a but want some opinions

ok, my 1999 m6 t/a has 90,000 miles on it. I had it since it was new and took care of the car so i know it is in good mechanical condition. I like speed and want a really fast car so here is my problem. I can eather sell the car and get a EVO VIII or a sti both around 22K(I know, a stab in the back to the v8 community but they are real drivers cars and that awd 300hp is a lot of fun). The second option would be to keep the t/a and get it turbo or super charged. The problem here is the milage on the car. I will only have enough cash to put on some form of forced induction. You think the motor can handle low psi for a while. In about a year I will have the money to stroke the motor. This isnt a daily driver so if the car happens to fail on me I have a backup. what would you guys do? keep the t/a or go jappanese.

keep the ta man you will be kicking yourself in the ass if you got rid of it...the block will handle the supercharger.. its not really the block thats the problem its the rearend thet is the weekest link on the car just dont launch it hard and you should be fine.. but imo id keep it
good luck to ya whatever you decide

I think you have to figure out exactly what you want...because all 3 cars are very different...all of them would be a lot of fun and can make great power with them. Im sure the LS1 would hold some boost no problem as long as maintenance was done to the vehicle over the years. Its much easier to make more power with a forced induction application and its always awesome to get something new and have fun with. If I were you I would go out and drive an evo and a sti and compare it to your car and weigh it all out and see what the outcome is...

I dont have much history with EVO's but I have worked on a lot of subaru's and everyone who has them really does love them...and they can take a beating and last a long time. This is what I hear with the F body's as well as I am fairly new to them but am loving mine very much...(2000 WS6 6spd).

You know, when I was looking for a DD I test drove a Sti and Evo. They just don't have the punch the T/A has. They are made with cheap materials. Check them out. I picked up a 350Z instead.

I'm keeping my Formula for NOS and TTing it someday. But, for me bolt ons and suspension for the Formula is more than enough for me to handle a Sti or Evo at a stock level.

    RIP S4 06Tbss

I am and have been in the same spot you are. I ended up buying a Talon tsi turbo as a dd instead of putting that money toward my TA due to the fact I would rather keep the miles off the TA and mod it later when I am done with college n can afford it. But here I am now selling the talon cuz its in bad shape so I went out and test drove some STIs and WRXs and thought I was going to have to sell the TA to afford the payment for it, but when it comes down to it that kind of neglected the point of keeping the miles off the TA if im just going to sell it. STIs are fast as hell for what they are and stick to the road like no other but are expensive for what you get, but they will last you. In my oppenion they are ugly with that huge thing on the trunk. I thought about a good nice dd with awd, fast, and now im buying a 2001.5 Nogaro blue Audi S4 for 15.9 with 73,000miles on it and has a bumper to bumper warrenty. I figure the TA is payed off and the payments wont be to bad on a car under 16k plus its twin turbo and will out run a sti and is luxrey. My point is keep the TA and find a car that is fast and is just as good if not better then a STI or EVO that you can afford...Good luck

so for $22,000 you cant build a motor? the stock motor will handle moderate boost about 10 lbs with 93 octane and a good tune from a chassis dyno the pistons are the weak link in the motor also if you dont have a truck everyone needs one for 22k you could get the turbo and a nice used truck

If you decide to sell it, go with the STI, not the EVO. Mitsubishi is low quality stuff, and their clutches go out, and from what I've heard the dealerships are really crappy with the warranty coverage.

It's crazy if you ask me, they sell you a $30,000 turbo charged car, then they don't honor your warranty if you drive the damn thing.

Subies are just superior in quality and dealer support, IMO.

Three years ago, I traded in my '99 TA w/70k on it for a new Subaru Legacy GT.

You're going down the same road I did, and I can tell you whats going to happen. Your going to get that AWD Turbo car, and then you're going to realize a few months (and races) later that its not a Trans Am. Then you're going to miss her.

Luckily for me, I came into some cash and was able to go back and buy another Trans Am, with lower mileage than the one I traded in on my Subaru.

Now I keep that Trans Am in the garage, and the Legacy gets the daily driver status. I'm betting three years from now, thats what you're going to do as well.

With 90k on yours, I'd say go ahead and do it, just to get it out of your system.

I would keep the T/A...never cared for Japanese cars. It would take alot to convince me to actually buy a Japanese car. These two in particular are " nice " cars but, never in a million would you see me driving one and actually saying yes, I own this...not even as a DD, unless it was free. I always have owned, and always will continue to own muscle. But I know that I might be alone on that decision, so I'll leave it to you. All that matters is what car you want in the long run, shouldn't matter what anyone else tells you, just do you're homework before you buy, if you do.

How about you give me the TA, and I kick you in the nuts? Its a win win.

    j/k lol

But in all reality I see your from Chicago, the only reason I can see you want to get a awd is because of snow, if that was the case id buy a cheap 4wd jeep or truck for winter and keep the TA. That motor still has a lot of life left.
