Ls2/3 crate motor. Less hassle and more dependable.

I personally would say neither. A ls3 crate engine is not cheap. Your gonna pay 7k for a long block. I would build a ls6 block to a 6.6 liter stroker with a nice set of heads and cam. Same price but you could make 500+whp.

if youre gonna spend the extra money for a nicer block get an LSX its still cast iron like the LQ9 so it wouldnt meet youre weight saving thing but it uses six bolts per cylinder making it so you can handle higher boost or nitrous amounts with less worries about head gaskets

you could also save the extra 500 bucks for an aluminum block and use that money to buy a basic plate spray kit which is going to make a much larger difference in 1/4 mile times or whatever else you do. If you only autocross or roadrace there is no need for this obviously. But i would notice more of a difference from a 150 shot than i would from saving 100 Lbs on an aluminum block

Yes but i would just keep the car the same weight for more reasons than just straight line performance. The way the weight is disbursed also effects the way the car handles and drives. Then you have to think well why not just put a 150 shot on a ls2 stroker and have weight savings and spray. These cars are heavy as is 3400-3600lbs and once you start replacing engines with iron blocks and drivetrain parts built bigger for more strength and putting nos bottle in and cages some can weigh damn near 3800-3900lbs.

I don't know how much $$$ you plan on spending. But why not Forge your current engine and Procharge it?

Yea, but he can also sell the LS1 and they go for a nice penny. Then put that plus F/I money into a nice built engine... Also, I don't think the iron block engine, would weigh similar to an LTx F-Body.

Build a stroker with a nice head/cam package. You can get close to 600 at the crank for a bit more than a blower set-up.
