    Stock HP

Im sure this has been answered and I did try searching for a post but I couldnt find it. What is the stock hp of 2001 WS-6...ive heard several different #'s. However last weekend I raced a talon that dynoed 306 wheel and kept up with dead even, he got me by 1/2 car. His car also gutted to 3000 lbs. But anyway I figured it has to be low 290's or so, just wondering

Well they made 350 at the crank and most dyno in at 310-330rwhp. Mine stock dynoed at 317rwhp and im not a ws6 but they dyno the same.

Probably more like 2000, and if he's makin 300 plus at the wheels then that's a strong Talon.
You probably make more power than him but he has a better power to weight ratio that's why he pulled on you.

Stock an LS1 car makes 300-310 with the M6 and 290-300 with the A4.
Mine is an M6 and made 320/333 to the wheels with catback and lid. Flat as hell torque curve.

The curve is probably why you even stayed close to the Talon.

Why does a stock M6 make more horses than a stock A4? Don't they both have an LS1?

Yes. The difference is how the power is transferred to the wheels.
Different trannies require more/less to get the power to the rear wheels.

Just like my Moser 9" lowers my dyno numbers because it is a little harder to spin (heavier, bigger) than the stock rearend.

This isn't in a sticky somewhere??

    Stock FWHP ratings:

    LS1 in Z28/Formula/TA: 305 ('98-'00), 310 ('01-'02)
    LS1 in SS/WS6: 320 ('98-'00), 325 ('01-'02)

Typically M6s lose ~15% to get the power to the wheels, A4s ~20%

If you look at what many have dyno'd RWHP stock and do the math, it's easy to conclude that either the factory FWHP ratings were conservative (most likely) or GM's powertrains are very efficient (not likely).

Gms numbers are far off, they say my 2000 Trans am ls1 should make 305 out of the motor yet i dynoed more than that to the wheels when i was stock.

    .
I'd be curious how right you are....a 320 fwhp ws6/ss a4 will only put down 256 rwhp I've never heard that one before.
That's barely better than an LT1.

They underated HP for 2 reasons.

    1. To let the Vette owners think they had the higher HP car
    2. To keep insurance rates down, because believe it or not some insurance companies based their premiums on HP numbers. Why do you think the '03 Cobra was underated at 390 HP and not the magical 400 HP number?

    Makes sense.
