Black- 2001 Trans Am Ram Air
squeal / chirp
I have 2001 Ram Air and I am hearing a chirp or squeal when I disengage the clutch and occasionaly when I make a turn (steering). All belts have been replaced and the tensioner is functioning properly and I have a new clutch (all parts replaced). It only happens when diengaging the clutch and an initial load is placed when the engine engages the transmition (no squeak in nuetral). Also the squeak remains whether the A/C is on or off. Any suggestions?
Joe

It might be your bearing i cant remember the name that engages the clutch, i had this noise. Its not hard to replace other than you have to drop the tranny lol took me 2 days in a garage with the car on jack stands.

The sound seems strongest in the location where the transmittion and engine intersect. Ths sound travels making it hard to pinpoint the exact location.

Well the bearing is right behind the clutch so it would be in that general area, if it is that its not a big problem that needs to be fixed, you can still drive it. Its just an annoying noise i know. If of course this is the probelm i could be wrong, is it a constant queal or just when your letting the clutch out.

The clutch is only a month old and I remember hearing the sound prior to the new clutch install. The entire clutch was replaced throwout bearing, fly wheel, pressure plate, and slave cylinder. I guess the new parts can be defective but I was hoping to exaust all other options before I pull the tranny.

The squeal subsides after the tranny engages, but it occurs occasionaly on turns (even when I am not using the clutch). Also the car does not have to be in motion (I use the parking brake and begin to let out the clutch without forward or rearward movement).

Yeah mine never made noise on turns unless i was engageing the clutch. I would check all the mounts to see if anything is loose or rubbing, did a shop do all this tranny work for you?

Yes a shop did the work so I the car will go back if I can't figure it out - I was just hoping for an easy fix like the pully. I'll get under tomorrow and check the mounts.
Thanks
