Every pic of the spray-in Niteshade stuff looks flat and the lens doesn't shine at all. Blackouts look nice and shiny and still let the lights shine through... Why are more people doing Niteshades these days?

If you do a final clear-coat, they won't look like that. Clear-coat, then wet-sand & buff to a nice glossy finish is the best way.

The covers are sometimes considered too '1990-ish'.
And yes, they simply snap on in place.
