slight ticking noise, sounds tinny, in dash

    OK,

Anyone ever notice a slight ticking noise on the passenger side, behing the dash panel? It sounds alomost like a duct flue or damper makes in the wind.

Makes the noise in relation to turns and starts and stops. I was thinking maybe something like a motion sensor for the alarm?

Anyone know what this noise is and is it nornmal for a car this age? 1999.

Mine does this as well. Try turning off the ac/heat and see if the sound goes away. It did for me and when i would put the blower on higher the ticking would speed up

tinny ticking noise, in dash in front of passenger

Nope! That's not it. It does it with the heat or ac on or off. Its definately sounds like something that is balanced and when you made an abrupt turn or acceleration it falls off center and then it kind of ticks as it bounces back and forth until it centers again.

Its in front of the passenger, somewhere in the dash, possibly mid way toward the firewall.

It only does it when the var is jostled or shaken.

Sound like a damper in a furance flue system when the wind blows and the weighred damper kind of racks back and forth for a few seconds.

Its driving me crazy not to know what it is. I've never heard a noise like this in a car.

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

might have a leaf caught in your HVAC fan. it's located under the passenger dash. Just start takin' stuff apart and you'll find it, it looks like a big aluminum bell when you look up from below the dash. Twist that nut and the whole unit should come down.

Nope, no leaves and this is deffinately not related to the hvac or the fan. This will occur even if the car is off, and you really shake or jar the car.
Every morning all the stupid and incompetent people I know get together and think of ways to make my life more difficult!
