    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

sand paper won't do shit. I wanted to get all the caked on shit off, so with liberal amounts of brake cleaner, i scrubed them clean with a metallic disc on the drill then shot them with engine paint.

None taken =) really? did it take a long time? I just figured it would have to be down to bare metal for the paint to stick.

dependling on how nasty they are. . . i would spray them with brake cleaner like tss said or even use carb cleaner, which will probably take off any lose paint that already on on em. . . then just use a good wire brush (power wire brush if your in a hurry) and you should be good. Use good quality paint, duplicolor engine enamel or even header enamel work fine.
