Really embarrasing oops
So my wife and I went out for a drive, were cruising along between 60-70 in
6th, so i decided i wanna have a little fun, i go to downshift to 4th, but instead i grab 2nd, the car lunged forward as would be expected, i pulled off the highway and into a parking lot, didn't smell anything weird, engine sounds fine, and didnt see any leaks, is there anything i should be concerned with, she seemed like she drove as she did before said incident, i tried to listen for any noises besides the normal squeaks and rattles but really didnt hear anything, my friend said he would only be concerned with the clutch, has anyone else experienced or know anyone who has done this? Scared the shit out of me, sorry so long

i did almost the same thing...i was accelerating fairly quickly...was probly doin about 50 or 60 in 3rd..went to shift to fourth and put it right back in second...did the same thing you described but i never had any problems...if you didn't smell your clutch get burnt up then you'll be fine...

Red Tint Jewelcoat- 2008 Trailblazer SS
60-70MPH in 2nd gear is spinning 5800-6000 RPM.
The pushrods tend to get bent when you are just about at redline in 3rd and drop it into 2nd instead of 4th.

listen closely to the engine. a clicking noise might mean bent pushrod.

I did the same thing, years ago. It sounded like the whole rear end came unglued. No problems though. I was like you, concerned.

White- 1999 Transam WS6
I know with my stock 3.42 gears my redline in second is around 70-72mph, so you should probably be fine.

A friend of mine did that in his 99 mustang GT...He was trying to act like a bad ass for his girlfriend and pass me, but instead dropped it into the wrong gear, the car shuddered violently he bent a couple push rods, heads, etc etc etc........never ran the same again.....

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
not to worry. i did that like twice in a row on the highway racing. I had just installed a new shifter with a retarded T grip and kept going into 3rd instead of 5th upshifting from 4th...HA! thankfully i was quick on the clutch to pull out. I thought i'd left my tranny behind me both times, but these cars can take the pain, man!
