    Title, insurance both say Firebird Trans Am.

    The Trans Am's will have the WS9 (formula) RPO code though.

    I don't think the Motor Vehicle people actually know what our cars are. They are all Firebirds, but some are Formulas, some are Trans Ams.

    So I guess most states just list all three to cover the bases

    All Transams/Firehawks/WS.6s started life as a Formula....than were treated to the change over. this is why the majority of Insurance companys/DMVs will classify them as a Formula. Trans am/Firehawk/Ws.6 is just a trim level which generally doesnt show up on title's or registrations.

    Insurance = 1999 Pont FR/Trans/RA (1999 Pontiac Formula/Trans am/Ram air, I'm guessing)

    True, but a Trans Am isn't a Formula, it merely starts with the formula packaging. Its a very different car exterior wise, front bumper, rockers, rear bumper, ect. Those kinds of things make a big difference to the insurance company when they are doing a claim, in order to get accurate information they should know exactly what kind of vehicle it is. The Trans Am facias are much more expensive than the V6/Formula facias I'm sure.
