Is Pontiac going under???
Went to a car show last night and this guy told me, along with Saturn, that Pontiac was going under. Is this a shitty and cruel rumor or is there some truth to it?

It is going away as a division, but the nameplate will still be used on 'niche vehicles'. the article is posted on here somewhere, in the AAG i think.

It really burns me up that they'd get rid of Pontiac, but still have the GMC division and Chevy division both producing trucks.
Do they really need the same exact vehicle produced under 2 different nameplates?
I'd say Chevy should stop making trucks since I like GMC's better, but if they get rid of GMC, they can get rid of the whole division, along with all the marketing and personel costs.
Especially since cars need to be more fuel efficient, and GMC only makes gas guzzlers. At least Chevy has the Cobalt and whatnot that are fuel efficient.

Hummer and Saab are up for sale. Saturn is under review and probably will face the same fate. Pontiac is also up for review however the plans seems to narrow its product line to 1 or 2 models. Chevy, GMC, Cadillac, and Buick will carry on, albiet cuts in production and discontinued models.
Hopefully as Pontiac reforms itself and restructures its product line we will see some cool new cars arrive, or maybe some revved up old classics.

In my book Pontiac closed up shop in '02 when the last Trans Am rolled off the assembly line.

What about the GTO and G8?
Australian or not, the GTO was a great car, and there's no denying the G8 is badass.
I love my 'Bird, but in reality, other than looking good and being fast for the money, they're not really that great a car. A G8 or GTO would suit me better, but I just can't afford one.

GM lost 31 billion in 2008. That should answer all questions right there.

The G8 is a Grand Prix replacement. I'm not trading my Trans Am for one of those. I've got a Turbocharged Legacy as a daily 4-door driver. Its not as powerful as the G8, but it has AWD and can be modded to run with one.
The GTO, as I've said earlier, is like a black woman. Sure it has a vagina, and it can rock my world, but I'm not attracted to it. Period.
And not many other enthusiasts were either, as the dismal sales of that model clearly point out.

Pontiac will only scale down. From what I hear...they are going to spread their performance techs thruout GM.

Sebring Silver Metallic- 1995 Pontiac Firebird
A Pontiac/GMC dealership down the street from me closed it's doors last month. Personally, I wish GM would find a suitable buyer to sell the brand to, they don't deserve to own Pontiac.
I also think it's b/s that they're keeping GMC instead of making IT the niche market brand. Everything GMC comes out with is identical to that of everything Chevy already has. It's ridiculous and pointless, and down right pathetic. I don't see how GM thinks it's better to keep a brand that only makes trucks, vans, and SUV's.. especially if you consider the fact that those vehicles are part of the reason why GM is in the situation it's in now.
GMC ------- Chevy
Canyon ---- Colorado
Acadia ----- Traverse
Yukon ------ Tahoe
Sierra ------ Silverado
Envoy ------ Trailblazer
Savana ---- Express
------------ Avalanche
See what I mean, wtf is the point?
