    Noobie question

I have a 98 T/A ws6 ram air. How do I know if someone has put a lid on it? Even though I have a factory ram air do i still need to get another lid ?
I want the most free or cheap hp possible.
    Thanks.

If the "lid" on your car (the part you have to un-clamp and lift to replace the air filter) has a decal that says "Pontiac Ram Air", then you have the stock lid, which contains sound-deadening resonance chambers and a restrictive oval opening between the filter and MAF. An aftermarket "lid" eliminates the chambers and provides a larger round opening to the MAF = better airflow ~5HP. Sounds better too at WOT.

PS: Need your ASC build#?? PM me your VIN.

I do not know the asc# or even know where to find it. I do have the vin. What will that tell you?
The air box does say " Ram Air by Pontiac" on it.

Here a link to Bob's spreadsheets w/ the '98 ASC#s for all but the black and red cars. Go to the silver sheet and search for your VIN and you'll find your ASC# and conversion date.

Yep, you have the stock lid. It's been so long since I removed mine I couldn't remember the exact words on it. Swap that puppy, it's one of the 1st mods everyone should do. Is your stock SOTL (Single On The Left) exhaust still in-tact? While not as good flowing as some aftermarket cat-backs, its better flowing/louder than the dual exhausts used on '99+ WS6s. So I've put a cat-back further down on my priority list, in fact I'm planning on the "Poor Mans Borla" (single 3" e-cutout just in front of the muffler to a 2nd 3" tip on the right).

Yes it still has the stock single outlet exhaust. The only mods that have been done to it are gears and torque converter.
