    2000 WS6 Trans Am

    New Here 2000 WS6 Value?

    Hi everyone,

I'm an old Trans Am enthusiast and I've been into offshore boats for a while. Gas prices are discouraging me from the boat thing and turning me toward hot rods again.

My buddy has a white 2000 WS6 T/A with 10k miles on it. It has a cool air kit, exhaust and lowering kit not yet installed. He wants 20K and I think I can get it for 18k. Is that a good deal?

    Thanks
    Mike

18k is a good deal if the car is MINT and your buddy is the original owner.
if the price seems fair to you then go for it!

Yea it's mint, the only bad thing is it's been sitting unused outside for about 6 months. He just lost interest in it. Going to drain and put fresh gas in it with him and take it for a ride before buying. Any other concerns there? Brakes are rusty, he says they aren't seized or anything and the white hasn't been affected by weather at all.

bull shit the white hasn't been affected....Yeah, a neglected car is not what you want. I'm sure rodents and other shit has made their homes in there-lord knows what seals have dried up and are broken. you mean to tell me this guy didn't even start the engine every once in a while...how do you just neglect a trans am!?

    Hey dude....
FYI, I bought a 2000 WS6 from a dealer in PA 2 months ago, and paid $18,000 for her in mint condition, w/ only 29,000 miles on it. If he lost interest in it, start w/ a $17,000 offer, then let him wiggle down to $17,500. Just my (hopefully helpful) $ .02

    Thanks.

Here's a pic I took the other night. He washes it and starts it, but he hasn't started it in a couple months now. He started a new business and has been very busy. It still looks great. If it looks funny it's because there is dew on it it was a wet humid night.

Probably because of the fact that he got bored w/ the Trans Am and just let it sit.

It's not too hard on a vehicle to sit for a period of a few months. He says he's started it but assume that he hasn't. I wouldn't worry about draining the tank. I would just top it off with fresh gas, start it up, and take it for a pampered spin around the neighborhood. The rust on the brakes will mostly disappear after a bit of use and there probably isn't much to worry about other than normal service related issues like changing fluids and such. I paid about $18,000 for mine, a white 2000 WS6, with about 20,000 miles on it a little over a year ago. I would start by offering him a lot less than you think you should pay. Assuming he bought the car new and it is paid off then he is going to pocket the entire amount. If he's got a loan to pay off then certainly he'll be looking at making some profit beyond the loan so that will change things abit.

Yea, I've been around the block with hot rods, I know what to check for, just wasn't sure what this particular car is worth. I was thinking 18k is a good price, it only has 10k miles and he is the first owner. He's a friend and I go to his house all the time, it has moved from one side of the driveway to the other, and the cover was only off for a few months. I just haven't seen him drive it anywhere in a year or more.

Six months is nothing for a car to sit, especially if it has been taken care of (covered) the rest of the time.
The rust is completely normal for the rotors. What is means is that they have seen moisture and not used after that. The first drive will eradicate the rust. If you don't like the fact that they rust, you can replace the rotors with aftermarket ones. Once I understood what it meant on mine, I could care less.
With only 10k, you are getting a fine deal on an excellent automobile.

6 months of sitting is OK. Put fresh gas in it. When you get it home, have the filters changed (oil, gas, air). Check the air in the tires. Replace the battery as you don't know how old it is and they will go bad from sitting, worth the $ 75.00 for a good one.

Check the bluebook value using the private or retail value as guide. If 17K seems in the range, start there.

She looks sharp. Post back when the outcome.

    Ok,

I'm trying to sell my boat and then I will go get the car. He's doesn't have it on the market and would like to see me get it so no worries.

I'll let you guys know and post nicer pics when I get it and get it all cleaned up.
