Need info on my 2000 WS-6

It has 57,000 miles on it. I will be driving from San Diego Ca. to Illinois in a couple weeks. I just bought the car a little over a week ago and it is in very good running condition. Just had the cats changed out with new ones. I am going to change the oil before I leave. But I need to know if there is anything else, besides the normal stuff, I should look into?

Plus while I'm in IL. I am going to change the tranny fluid, rear diff. fluid, and probably flush the radiator. Is there anything I need to know there? I know the cooling system uses DexCool now. But does the rear diff. need the limited slip additive still? New to the LS1 world. I was a third gen guy.

Id recommend since i assume ur driving during the day bring an extra container of water\ dexcool since its HOT out there, just keep an eye on ur gauges bring another quart of oil and after 2 or 3 hours stop and check the engine bay, let the heat out. Other than that id just check everything even double check ur doing a long trip and id hate to hear about a nice Ws6 accident. Just check all ur fluids maybe bring some extra with you anyway i always carry some extra oil with me since i have to drive over 100 miles from college to go back home. Since ur in the desert too id check ur air filter, probably gonna collect some sand or debris in it on this trip. Good luck on your trip and congrats on ur new ls1 oh and maybe get a car bra just for the trip (can be some nasty stones out there)

If you have a K&N filter drop in, you might want to buy a cheapo paper filter for the trip since it will get really dirty. Also, if you don't have them yet, two of my favourite items I never leave home with are a Jump Start (or any self jump starting device) and a portable DC powered air compressor. Well worth the 15 to 20 bucks you'd spend on each. Should already have a fire extenguisher, but if you don't get one: C and B fires. Don't forget a small bag of common tools, some DOT3, bit of oil, a few rags, and a flashlight w/ some extra batteries if the air compressor doesn't have one built in to it. Never know what may happen on a long trip - or even a short one. I always keep this stuff in whichever car I am driving.

Need to change the fuel filter, but not a necessity before the trip...you should get 27 MPG+.

Check the tire pressure and the spare too. Spare is supposed to be like 75psi I believe.

Nope, unfortunately I don't know much about which roads. It is a dream of mine to drive to California on Route 66 one day though. I'll do it in some American Muscle too.
