My day at Thunder Racing
hey yall this past tuesday i went to thunder racing in baton rouge to get a computer tune on my 99 trans am. when i got there, i told them that i needed a custom tune on my computer, because i put headers, ory, no cats, deleted the EGR, electronic controlled cut out, and the free ram air mod, k&n air filter, and also the problems that i am having with alot of black smoke emitting out of my exhaust when i get down on it. they told me that they can do a "basic custom tune." i was wondering what do they mean by a "Basic Custom Tuning" if yall have any idea, please let me know. but now ever since i got the tune, my car is running ALOT better, and there is hardly if any black smoke. i def. feel a difference in power when i drive my car. also i was wondering if you guys can give me a round about estimate on how much horse power i am pushing to the rear wheels. im so amazed at what these guys have done to my car, its like driving a totally different car. the only thing that i wasnt pleased about was that they couldnt tune out the EGR code, so my SES light would go off. other than that i am very pleased.

did they give you reason why they couldn't turn the egr off? It's only a couple codes they have to turn off and a timing table correction. I see no reason why they couldn't do that unless there's some other factor there.

Tuning without dyno time. Tuner takes the car's set-up into account and makes a single tune to upload into your car.
No idea why they couldn't tune out the EGR codes...but it may have something to do with federal laws.

Hmm, I'm interested in knowing as well. I was gonna have them tune my car once I swap the engine, but I hate for them to not be able to delete the AIR and EGR codes.

they told me that it had something to do with some laws, and that they would lose their license, and be fined 400 million dollars, but they did a good job on the tune, i have no complaints on the work that they do, im just a little pissed off that i still got a SES light and they couldnt tune the EGR outta the computer. however they did offer me a programmer/tuner type deal for $710, but i told them that they can have it until i get a new job lol.

$400 million? Yea...Right.
Just call up Futral and see if they can do it. Most places would only charge like $50.

Its in Walker. I'm surprised you've never heard of it. The guy who owns the place has the worlds fastest stock cubed LS1 car if I'm not mistaken. 8.90s I believe.

What I meant was just sent it off to someone like Frost to have them tune the codes out. No need for it to be in the car to do that.
