    Mean red eyes

does anyone out there remember a thread posted about a Ram Air bird that a guy had put bright red lights in behind the Ram Air screens in the hood? the guy could turn on those lights at night and it just looked so cool.

    Here's the thread:

PS: I took the screens out too, so there is no blocking the light.

I have since removed the bottom lights...they looked like garbage.

If you need any help with the wiring or anything like that, just ask.

I did this as well. Great write up by the way! Except I didnt do the ram air part. I have the hood but decided not too. I have the lights under the hood so it just emanates red through the 2 "scoops". Mine looks really well along with my hids, fogs and light up bird!
And I used a waterproof strip of leds that i just cut into small segments and turned out really well.

Changing the gears or tire size will throw the speedo and tach off...bad ground or just lack of power (blown fuse) to the instrument panel could be the cause of the other 4 not working.

    He could've meant mine too...

I used 3" neon tubes. Like LS1Camino did, I lined the inner baffle with aluminum tape, and tucked the tubes up into the pointy part of the hood. I ran the wires down the hood on the computer side, and through the firewall. I used an illuminated switch and put in in the cigarette lighter's spot. I tapped into a power source from the lighter and ran it to the switch. I ran a ground from the switch (for the switch's light) and the hot wire from the neon to it. I grounded the neon out to bare metal, and buttoned it all up...

edit: tried taking pictures of the actual install, but they didn't turn out real well...

Both cars look awesome and the write ups are great. Putting the switch in the cigarette lighter is a great idea.

lol...it's no problem, I just have to find the time to type it up. I'm going to just write the short gist of it, if you have any questions, please ask and I'll try my best to answer them.

    What you'll need:
LED Strips (I used these from Autozone...they're already wired and weatherproof)
    18-16 Gauge Wiring
    Wire Splices
Wire Crimps (the tool used to cut and crimp wire)
    Toggle Switch
3M Heavy Duty Double Sided Tape

I used the power from the Cig Lighter. Wire one end of the switch to the positive wire of the Cig Lighter (Orange) and another wire splice to the ground of the Cig Lighter (Black...ground almost always is Black). Now attach a wire the other end of the switch and run it with the ground wire under the kick panel on the passenger side, behind the glove box and out through the firewall. Make sure you keep track of which wire is ground and which one is power. You'll have to pull the PCM to run the wire through the grommet and into the engine bay, like this. Then run both wires up the hood (I did it like this with wire loom and holders). Attach the ground wire from the cig lighter to the black wire coming out of the transformer box (that comes with the LED strips) and the power you connect to the Red and Yellow (I think...it's the other two wires). Now, attach the box inside your hood (using the tape). Now attach the lights o your hood like so using the tape that is provided...since I'm a perfectionist, it took me a few tries (and using the 3M Tape) to get the positioned right.

To get them to reflect properly, I used Aluminum Tape (NOT DUCT TAPE), actual metal, reflective tape from Autozone on the baffles (this is sort of not a good pic).

If you have any questions...just ask, and I'll help.

Now that is a great write up on how to install these. I never thought of doing it to my 'bird, but it sure looks cool. I can only imagine the scared campers when we go camping and come back to the camp site at night with the fog lights, amber DRL, and the red nostrils!!! I will put this on the mod list to do, not now but sometime in the future.
