It seems like limited by budget. If you have the money, get a better platform.-LS1. If you want to mod and build a monster, you can do either. Easier with an LS1.

the LT1 cars are not bad but the design is stupid! they mount the OPTI behind the water pump, when the pumps go bad alot of the time the OPTI poops on you also... and they are not cheap to replace... and they always get hot in slow traffic goes from 175-180 straight up to 235ish then the cooling fans finally kick on, the ls1's sit on 210 all day no matter how hot it is or what kinda traffic your in... they do make good power but the ls1 is by far a better choice i had a 94 trans am and now i own a 2000 Z28 and personally i will never go back to an lt1... ls1 cars you can drop in so many motors in to one any of the ls motors, ls1,ls3,ls6,lq4,lq9,lm7,ect... lol
