I got a DD!
Got a new addition to the family. 02 Silverado... Now I have a daily driver and can afford to save up for my Pleasure Vehicle :woohoo:
I know its not the prettiest but I've been trying to find the best deal on a cheap work truck to drive around.

Wow, got home from getting insurance for it. 56 dollars a month for full coverage (38 Liability only) and since the T/A is now classidified as a pleasure vehicle it dropped 30 bucks. My insurance only went up $20 a month.
On a downer note I got home and realized the passenger window doesn't work. Luckily Manual windows are allot easier to fix.

Nice looking truck. I like the earlier years like that before they went to the ugly front end.

Please Friggin Help!
Ok, guys I need some serious help. Here it goes... I bought the car from a small dealer in our area who purchased from an auction, he sold me the car which is overall in good condition with 104,322 miles on the clock. The odometer had blacked out which is semi common and about 100 bucks to fix.
I was planning on sending the cluster in tomorrow to get it fixed and it seems like everything will be working. I ran a carfax out of curiousity and it shows an entry of 1/29/08 where it was sold at the auction with an odometer reading of 171,461.
WTF, thats a huge difference from what I assumed I've been buying. I have a bill of sale from him stating the 104k miles and the carfax that states 171k.
What should I do, I'm dumbfounded...

Wow! I'd be pissed. I'd want my money back, or at least a big portion of the purchase price back.
That's a huge discrepency.
Too bad you waited till now to run the Carfax. To me, that blacked out odo would have sent up a red flag.
You might want to check some legal message boards, or maybe find some consumer protection agencies or the better businness bureau in your state.
Maybe first call the dealer, tell him what you found, and offer him the chance to make it right. If not, it might be time to seek legal help.

your right, I was hesitant. He told me that it had the 104K miles and even wrote it on the bill of sale so coming from a dealer even a small one I figured he wouldn't blatently lie.

Take the Carfax report and the Bill of Sale back to the dealer. Tell him either to refund some of the money (50%-60%) for misrepresnting the truck or a full refund will be demanded. If he doesnt play well....then take your paperwork to the local District Attorney. 2ndly....write a little cover letter explaining the situation to the BBB and send in copies of your paperwork. Let the dealer know of your plans.

odometer fraud is big business. Do as Sarge said and hope they take care of it. If not follow the others advice with the DA and the BBB

Well, I'm going to give them a call back tomorrow. I spoke with the NHTSA and TXDOT some today. He put TMU on the sales slip next to the mileage, which Stands for total mileage unknown. All I can say is that I'm an idiot, but if he bought something with 170K+ and then turns around and markets it for 104K and sticks a TMU on the sales sheet, I still don't understand how thats not fraud.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think a 02 silverado reg cab short bed with 170K vs 104K is valued? KBB never seems accurate.

No, It's the 4.3 v6. I figured it'd keep the mod bug away.

Sorry about no responses. I've been trying to gather all of the information I could. I did get my clear blue title in the mail stating 104K this past weekend.
I also decided to send in the dash cluster to some this company to repair. Don't want to plug them, but the company is first rate and the service is phenominal. I got a call last night at about 7:30 from the gentlemen who was repairing it. It looks like two wires for the odo display were intentionally cut. He's documenting everything and sending pictures along with the original display that has been vandalized. Looks like I have some good stuff to take to the police now at least. I'll let you know what happens.
