08 Mustang GT/CS Blue- 2002 Trans Am WS6 traded
i looked up defi's sight out of curiousity and although its not organized all that well, it seems that many models have been discontinued recently but i did find a 'new' model that does the same thing but has its own transparent screen just in front of the windshield. Guess they had problem with reflecting off the glass; idk.

do you think it's doable? maybe before mounting it on the dash just quick wire it all up and see if it work s
how many total wires is there out of the HUD unit from the gtp?

I didn't get a wire harness with it, just the unit and the switch. The unit has 16 pins on its connector and the switch has 7.

Mission Fucking Impossible
OK, I have taken off the forward upper dash piece, and underneath was a big steel panel that goes from one side of the car to the other. There are two steel covers on either side of the dash next to the windows, inside which are the arm and axle assemblies for the windshield wipers. It seems like there would be enough room to place the entire HUD unit inside the hollow portion under the steel, but the wiper mechanism's travel uses almost that entire space. There's a picture of it below. Sorry about the low light level, I do a lot of work at night. So, I can't put the entire unit in the dash the way it is meant to be in a GP because of the lack of space and the placement of the wiper levers. But I am not defeated. I have fabricated things before, and this presents a challenge.
The unit itself is a triple-reflector display. The plastic box it comes in has two convex mirrors mounted inside that route the image of the LCD display onto the windshield while magnifying it. The actual LCD display is only about 2" wide and 1/2" tall. The mirrors make it seem bigger, and the plastic case keeps the glare off the windshield. The large mirror in the front of the case is the one that moves when you hit the up/down switch. I've taken the little lighted LCD display out of the casing with its flat wires and heat-sink. What I plan to do is mount it on top of the wiper access door, which is the perfect position for the driver to see it. I'll cut a rectangular hole in the plastic dash cover that goes over the steel, and attach a reading magnifier to the bottom of the hole, over the top of the display. I won't be able to move the display up or down on the windshield, but that shouldn't matter because of the slope and the fact that nearly everyone's head is in the same place when driving this car. I'm hoping the magnifying glass I have will be able to enlarge the display enough to be able to read it without too much distortion around the edges. Sounds like fun, right? I'll post more when I have more work done.

sorry to resurrect dead things, but ive been seriously considering doing this. What im thinking is that you would need to install the corvette instrument cluster in the fbody to have all the controls. So you would need to use the corvette's plug, harness, and backing plate for the instrument cluster. This is going to take a group effort to pull this one off. I would love to do this. What other cars have the hud? Cadillacs. They have the infrared cameras. Someone said GXP? What are the controls on that like? It's obvious if you read back through this, that there is a space issue concerning the wiper assembly. Thoughts? Suggestion?
