History question
Could you order dual exhaust tips from the factory on 98-02 ws6 cars? My friend isnt sure what exhaust is on his car. Its a 98 ws6. Has dual tips, and im pretty sure the stock exhaust for that year was single outlet. thankss

Looking at the '98 catalog the WS6 option listed a single outlet polished exhaust. There was also listed as an option on the Formula Coupe a "1LE Performance Package" that included the WS6 performance and handling package, and had a "specific dual outlet exhaust". This package does not include the Ram Air system, just the suspension, and wheels from the WS6.
Is your friend's car a TA or a Formula? Seems to make a difference in this case.

It did, in fact the option listing in the 1998 catalog specifically states
"1LE Performance Package: Includes P275/40ZR17 speed-rated tires (QFK), 6-speed manual transmission (MN6) (automatic transmission may not be ordered), WS6 Perfromance and Handling Package, specifically tuned suspension, specific 17" aluminum high-polished wheels, specific dual outlet exhaust, stiffer front and rear control arm bushings and Koni double adjustable shock absorbers."
This was only available on the Formula Coupe. Basically gave you all of the WS6 stuff except the ram air hood and air cleaner.

Incorrect
If you ordered a 1LE Firebird the Full WS6 Pkg was automatically added to the option list.
The difference was the addition of Koni Double adjustable shocks in place of the stock Decrapons along with better bushings.
BTW if you ordered a 1LE ($1,175) you also recieved a ($1,125) credit for the deletion of all the Power accessories (PW, PL, P mirrors and Monsoon) so in essence the 1LE Pkg cost you $50 on top of a Formula WS6.
And NO those tips are not stock.Last edited by 9T8W66; 04-17-2010 at 09:20 AM.

remember reading in camaro performance magazine that in 98 the ws6 included a single exit performance exhaust, but it was replaced with a dual exit exhaust in 99 because customers didn't like the single exit pipe with the trans am's rear bumper that had cutouts for dual exhaust pipes.i saw one of the style exhausts on a 98 ws6 (in 1998) and remember thinking "that looks like crap"

9T8W66 has it right. Just because the catalog didn't mention the hood explicitly in the 1LE description didn't mean 1LEs got the sleek beak.
Although I do believe the "specific dual outlet exhaust" in the 1LE description could be a typo / carry over from a previous year's printing. I believe I've seen a pic of a '98 1LE w/ the SOTL. I seriously doubt GM tooled-up for a unique exhaust for a few dozen cars.
Edit: Here's the pic. SOTL on a '98 SGM 1LE.Last edited by JohnnyBs98WS6Rag; 04-18-2010 at 04:42 AM.
