Is high 11's/low 12's possible for my DD?

Hi All, Wondering if it's possible to get my Trans Am to low 11's/low 12's on street tires while keeping it a DAILY DRIVER and with just adding a CAM to my current setup...

    1999 Trans Am WS6 (6 Speed)
    STOCK REAR END
    STOCK LS6 Heads
    STOCK LS6 Intake
    SLP Lid
    Pacesetter LT's
    Borla Exhaust
    Rear Lower Control Arms
    Sub Frame Connectors
    Torque Arm
    Custom Tune

Like I said, I want to keep it my daily driver, not add drag radials/slicks (Due to stock rear end) and just add a bigger cam...is it possible?Hi All, Wondering if it's possible to get my Trans Am to low 11's/low 12's on street tires while keeping it a DAILY DRIVER and with just adding a CAM to my current setup...

A stock WS6 should run high 12s/ low 13s. With the headers, exhaust, lca's, sfc's there is no reason why you should be in the mid to lower 12's with a mild cam you will be in the high 11's. I have basically the same setup with a very violent cam and run mid to high 11s on street tires. a set of 4.10 gears will shave half a sec off your e.t. hope this helps!

What do you run right now? You didn't mention your current times.

low 12's is certainly possible for a daily driver, but it'll depend on your car and setup.

It also depends on what you can tolerate as a "daily driver".. some people daily drive big cam cars and don't care...

Low 11s on street tires with just bolt ons/cam? No.

You can go low 11s, with bolt ons/nitrous and DRs.

Low 12s/high 11s is doable w/ full bolt ons, and it would be easier w/ a small cam, go bigger, mid 11s, throw in 243/LS6 heads, low 11s. Of course, going deeper than high 11s w/ a six speed I highly recommend is to upgrade your rear to 12 bolt or 9".

Sorry I have no current times. Wouldn't gears rip my rear end out? I want to try and keep the stock rear end cause i really dont have 5000 to purchase one

With just bolt-ons, you're going to need some sticky tires to hit the times you want (12's). With sticky tires comes added shock to the rear end, even more so since you're a manual.

So. With my street tires (Eagle F1s) and a stock rear end. If I had a nice cam that isn't too aggressive i CAN or CANNOT reach LOW 12's HIGH 11's on Street Tires? lol

Gonna be tough. Best I've run is 11.8 using M/T ets. Really gotta watch the rear end though. I've blown 2 carriers and 1 set of gears. I haven't upgraded to the 9 inch yet, but I am running 4.10s. With gears and a good carrier you could get a little extra forgiveness out of the stock rear end - wouldn't do it unless you can get a good deal on the parts. On street tires your just gonna have to much spin IMO. I don't use my car as a dd, but I don't think I'd have a problem with it if I did. PM me if you want my cam specs and other mods. 11s are tough to hit without some work.
It's not how fast you can go. It's how fast you can get there.

    I personally don't think 11's are possible with "bolt-on's" unless you're considering FI as a bolt-on. A cam is not a bolt-on.

Even with heads, LTs, ORY, exhaust, lid, TB, etc of the typical "bolt-on's" you'd be hard pressed to get into low 12's with a T56 and street tires.

High 11s is doable w/ bolt ons. !front swaybar, some weight reduction, 4.10 gears and DRs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 5k is alittle over the top for a solid rear end. More around 3k.

Beating on your car long enough with the manual, your rear end has it's days limited no matter what you do. If your want to run constant high 11's, your going to pop that stocker.

Gears w/o tires is pointless since you will be smoking them all the time. Stock ls-6 heads and mild cam low 12's worked ls-6 heads and mild cam high 11's would be reachable.

yeah 3000 for the rear, then you almost certainly need to drop money money for adjustable everything in the rear suspension (TA,LCA,PHB,etc)

3000 rear is pretty close, including a new driveshaft. For the time you will gain in the first 60', I wouldnt toss the idea of buying a 12 bolt or 9" just yet. Plain and simple, if your not cutting good 60' times, your not going to be running good times. A good general rule of thumb is for every .1 you cut in the 60', you cut .2 off the big end.
