    help with 1999 trans am

    I am new to the whole muscle car thing but I bought 99 ta with 5.7 is this a ls1?
    also when i first start the car it makes a little clicking noise then quits after a few minutes. Any suggestions thanks.

    you do have an ls1, and the ticking noise you are hearing is most likely piston slap.... very common with these cars. nothing to worry about.

    How did you buy a car not knowing what engine was in it? The LS1 started in 1998' with transam and camaros and in 1997' with the vettes!

    yeah you have the LS1, or as some people refer to it as "the ls1 tower of power", and that noise that you hear like it was mentioned before is piston slap. Happens to mine all the time when its cold outside, then goes away when the engine is warmed up.
