    Headlight problems

My headlights don't work correctly, please help:

When I turn the switch on to parking lights the main headlights pop up, also when I lock the doors the response from the car should be to flash the parking lights but the main headlights pop up. I replaced the switch and it didn't make a difference.

Also when the headlights close they make a grinding noise after they are all the way down...It sounds like they are still trying to go down even though there already there...This lasts for about 5 seconds and then everything is fine.

    Any ideas???

    Thanks

The gears are stripped in your headlight motor...you have two opstions:

    Replace the motor completely

    or

Buy some brass/steel gears off of ebay and replace your plastic gear in the motors with them

Thanks...I did a search after i posted (i know..wrong order) and found another guy had the exact same problem. This site rocks! I can't even imagine what the dealership would've charged for that.

They would charge you way too much probably around 400-500 a piece. The local dealership did that to my boss when he took his wifes firebird in b/c the motor would try to pull it down but could not. They told him that the whole headlight motor had to be replaced. When I told him that he could have just switched out the stripped gear for less then a 100 bucks he called up the service department at the dealership and went ape shit on their asses.
